You will notice that any pants I buy will possess one of three qualities: an elastic waist, a drawstring waist, or lightly stretchy fabric. I’ve lost patience with fabric that doesn’t give, and I think that people who insist 100% cotton pants look better are either deluding themselves or self-flagellating.
A FANTASTIC Donni Dupe if I've ever seen one. I have the white, and I love how they fit. I will be purchasing in this color- FOR SURE.
I would quite like to walk around bedecked with sinuous snakes, Grecian urns, bunches of grapes, goblets, vines, and leaves. Love the scarves, the pants, the tees, the coats ... perhaps my someday destiny is to be the illustrated woman.
These are so lightweight and easy to wear - they also wash and dry like a dream.
This in every color but especially this one. Imagine with a turtleneck and boots. Or a silk top and Louboutin kitten heels.
I refuse to wear sweatpants unless I’m actively exercising, but I also WFH from my sofa a lot and want to be comfortable. These are SO good and comfortable while still being polished… a win-win and completely worth the hype.
I’ve owned a few pairs of Kamm pants for years now, and they’ve more than earned their keep on a cost-per-wear basis. This is my favorite fit — I’m a longtime fan and always reach for them. And if a new pair isn’t in your budget, definitely check secondhand sites and shops!
aka party pants.
Plümo in Hackney makes, as far as I know, the most capacious, voluminous, and excellent trousers m’lady could wish for. Literally dozens of giant trousers. Highland tartans, Harris tweed, and wide-wale cord. Stretch out those lunges and feel the breeze because these bad boys come WIDE.
These are released in small batches and made to order which means they're sustainable, so love! Painter pants are a classic style that you'll wear and love forever.
La Ligne finally released their famous Colby pant (usually a poly blend) in 100% cotton poplin!!! They look just as drapey and breezy as the original, which are my perfect fit but make me sweat thanks to the fabric composition. ANYWAY, it’s the perfect thing for an LA fall when it’s still hot out but I’m trying to wear something trouser-adjacent.
Recently got these as a birthday present and I can’t stop wearing them!!! Wore them to a pool party and also out to dinner 🏖️
The best unbleached 100% cotton painter’s pants you can get.
These pants look like something my modern dance professors would have worn to class and feel like a t-shirt for your legs; they make killer pjs and are great for travel. I am also a fan of The Great's sweats; the Stadium pant duplicate a broken-in pair issued to me as a varsity tennis player that live in memory as the pinnacle of sweatpantdom (I get the mens' b/c they have pockets). Like-new pairs turn up resale from time to time; I also keep an eye out for the t-shirts, esp. the longsleeve.
JV: I got a compliment from a Gen Z on these lightweight, pleated pants and I felt exuberant. I mean, I knew they were cool, she just validated that they are in-fact long enough. Julia: Omg. How were you wearing them? JV: With my Tony Bianco the Row imitations. Julia: I would love to see you wear a leather flip flop-- JV: OK next time. What shirt? Julia: Tank is fine. We can create layering in the summer.A ton of short necklaces. A little sweater tied over your shoulders... JV: And a fun vintage bag!!!! OK perf, watch out Gen Z cuties.
Can’t pull the trigger- impractical, the fruits will probably bend and distort on my unusual backside- but if they just appeared…
I’ve decided there is nothing more FUN than printed pants. I took a hiatus, and I’m back.
I find most Apiece Apart meh at best, but I bought these pants resale on the advice of my friend Jess, and they are great: light, papery cotton, easy yet polished. Turn up on TRR now and then. Pair with a slouchy blazer for a work look that feels like PJs.
Feeling cute and comfy is one of the best things that can happen to a person, and that’s the whole Donni ethos. I haven’t had this “I’ll take it all!” energy with a company since I first discovered Ganni as a 32 year old looking to score in business and pleasure. I’m in a new phase, and love how these clothes keep me company on sick days and make me feel like Claire Danes in 1997 with their flirty simplicity.
Shaina is great at designing pants. I have multiple pairs of her trousers that I've worn repeatedly for 5+ years.
Julia: Elephant in the room, I am not ok with how Still Here is styling this online--way too heavy on the bottom with those shoes--that said-- JV: The dark Indigo wash was exactly what was missing from my denim collection. Julia: The drop-crotch also elongates your torso. JV: Wow, yes that's probably why I'm loving. Julia: Keep the shirt or knit cropped on top so it just hits the top of the jean to maintain that tension. For shoes, keep it a bit more sleek, so a ballet flat or a pointy boot in the fall. JV: Right, ok, a light shoe/not heavy. Julia: Long necklace for that same through-line of length in the torso. JV: I should really be calling them my long-torso pants? Julia: LOL. Also the loose straight is working for you right now! JV: Definitely, I'm in my new-mom era and these are a win.
I am typically wary of dupes, but these near-copies of the Leset Kyoto (on my wish list) pass the test. I got them in this Teak color and the white (I went a size larger in the white for a baggier fit) and I can’t wait to wear them all summer.
