Workwear

Jamaica Kincaid's gardening outfit

All decades-old hand-me-downs from her kid, aka perfection. (This is the lone gem from a long article on garden clothes that misses the only other gardening look worth embracing: nightshirt and bare feet, v. early in the morning.)

Waxed Cotton Apron (Field Studies Flora x Samuel Snider)

a very exciting collaboration.

Walking Apron

The perfect wheel-thrower’s apron with a split front skirt and leg holes.

Cargo Crew Denim Apron

I feel like i'm in The Bear when i wear this

A Vontade chore shirt

Love a jacket with a pocket that looks like it can hold an old mass-market paperback, b/c I am always finding them at Little Free Libraries and needing to bring them home with me.

Le Laboureur French Cotton Work Jacket in Red

Garden-core cosplay for the urban company man! I cannot get enough!

WORKMAN DENIM JEANS BLACK

Rentrayage makes—TRULY—the perfect faded black denim carpenter jeans. I hate that they're so expensive, but this label is miniscule.

Blue Workwear Set

The Workwear Jacket

Dickies Utility Painter's Pants

These pants are amazing! Go up 2-3 sizes for a relaxed fit. I refuse to wear expensive white pants or jeans since they get dirty so fast - these are the answer. Originally recommended by @joanna goddard

Hudson Durable Goods Deluxe Edition Waxed Canvas Tool Apron for Men and Women, Heavy Duty Work Apron with Front Pockets, Adjustable Padded Straps, Quick Release Buckle, Crossback - One Size, Black

Chocolate Chef Pant by Meals

I bought these at the incredible Wanderstate Mercantile in Chamblee, Ga. I was nervous about trying them on because they are made for women, and at 6'3, I know I am a big man. But they were such a good fit! The perfect pants to feel comfortable, yet stylish. Bought them in two other colors, but the chocolate will always be my favorite.

Bill's Workshirt (Gamine Workwear)

Waiting to pick up my kid from school in Seattle one day, another mom came by and said, “I hope this isn’t weird, but I have to tell you, I see you and your kid all the time and I used to work for this guy, Bill Cunningham, you wouldn’t know him, but he would have loved to take your picture,” and I died and went to heaven because indeed I knew and was obsessed with Bill Cunningham’s photos. Thank you to that mom for giving me one of my favorite compliments of all time and thank you to Gamine Workwear for making a perfect workshirt inspired by Bill’s.

Walking Apron - for potters & makers

La Blouse de Lyon

If you’re ever in Paris and want an authentic chore coat this place specializes in workwear. It’s more reasonably priced than A.Lo in Le Marais and they have fun colors too.

Work Jacket

wildfang

unique and bold suiting for all shapes and sizes found here! less tradition, more swag.

Work Shirt Indigo Chambray

A beautiful work shirt, soft but mildly structured. Four Objects uses chemical- and plastic-free fabrics from organic mills and Japanese deadstock. I plan to cook and write in mine.

Women's Steel Toe Work Boot

Super comfortable for all day wear.. so much better than any other rain boot in terms of comfort. Not the warmest boots, but thick socks do just fine. Steel toe is great for protection on any job/farm. I love the quality of these boots and they are on sale often!

Mid-Rise Work Pants - Swamp Green

All I’m saying is that these pants are the best in the world for every body, every day.
