I like to check and see if pockets will meet my purposes, which almost always involve carrying a book or magazine. Alex Mill's chore coat is great for paperbacks, but the v. best book coat is any Barbour or field jacket with a game pouch--basically, a roomy hidden pocket along the back meant to be stuffed with dead birds, but perfect for books + periodicals.
Big fan of this one. Levis is classic, doing more than most to manufacture in a. future considered way and there is a great secondary market for their stuff. That's the boring part... It's cool, can be dressed up and or down, and I can't wait for it to fade and wear in over the years like a kick ass pair of vintage Levis. Skirts, dresses, full trouser looks, and even as a beach coverup on a day that needs layers. 100% cotton classic denim means it will last and age well no stretching out or torquing - plus it makes it more friendly to a circular product system where the pieces could be reused or recycled or even biodegraded when the time comes - after five decades of regular wear.
Immediately sold out in most sizes but you can still snag a retro LL Bean “Japan” anorak in men’s M.
The cost per wear is a penny
I would quite like to walk around bedecked with sinuous snakes, Grecian urns, bunches of grapes, goblets, vines, and leaves. Love the scarves, the pants, the tees, the coats ... perhaps my someday destiny is to be the illustrated woman.
I want this coat so badly I can barely stand it. The Arch Coat is a long, structured silhouette crafted from 100% wool and detailed with sculptural window appliqués. Each window is layered with sheer tulle that hold small personal objects, like your lipstick, lighter, a photograph, or calling cards. Lirika Matoshi founded her namesake label in 2016 at the age of 20 after moving to New York City. She's originally from Kosovo and started by selling handcrafted accessories on Etsy. Pure brilliance!
I’ve been trying to graduate from black and gray coats and needed a lightweight puffer. The burnt caramel shade drew me in (now out of stock, but there are plenty of new colors to choose from, like Quiet Violet and Blue Sage); it goes well with denim, black, grays, and browns, so essentially all of my clothing! The diamond quilting is a refreshing break from a straight grid, and the coat has the good pocketry that Patagonia is known for.
My mother’s Burberry trench coat has been a touchstone for me since my very early 20s, when she passed it down to me when I started my first “real” job. It’s always reminded me of the faith she had in me, but more than that, it connects me still and always to the woman she was before me. It’s sentimental, cherished, and well-loved. My trench is over forty years old and still in superb condition. Well worth the investment for a piece that has lasted two lifetimes!
A vintage gem. Throw it on over almost any outfit.
perfect lightweight jacket with big pockets and a high collar
For a size 8 harlequin with cash to burn… I know she’s out there!
A classic raincoat in a sharper cut.
Last fall, I discovered this twice-boiled merino-wool wrap coat from Buck Mason. If you’re in search of a new wool coat, I’d get this one.
Loveee a colored suede jacket
Breaking down the differences between barn, field, paddock, and waxed cotton jackets! Know what you want before you start looking for it.
On the few occasions I actually get to wear my Rains jacket in Los Angeles I’m amazed by how impenetrable it is! I got it in the Netherlands and there’s no one I trust more when it comes to fighting off water than the Dutch. Simple design, truly keeps you dry, and isn’t bulky or cumbersome at all. they have ones that are maybe a little bit cuter but I like this one because it feels like a rain uniform.
Fall can’t come soon enough. With a sweater, over a sport coat, any way you want. So good.
I think this may be the perfect leather bomber jacket.
I'm pretty bitterly disappointed in a lot of the offernis for J. Press's first women's line (we do NOT want a cropped Shaggy Dog sweater or barrel-leg chinos! Give us the classics!) but this blazer makes up for all the rest.
A good price for what it is. The pattern is placed not repeated + prime era + velour = close to being a perfect collectible (velvet would be top tier). Jackets like this are usually $500 starting price. Buy now!
Count me in for anything SmizeVintage digs up. I already have a couple of her chore jackets in rotation and reach for them constantly.
A jacket with a secret pocket for smelling sticks. I predict we will see more “fashion for fragrance” in the future.
Long parka in Italian technical fabric from Massimo Dutti in cherry red.
Cannot justify another red jacket. Cannot justify another barn jacket. Cannot justify another studded jacket. But what if it’s… a studded red barn jacket?
