This bakery is the worst kept secret in Palermo but yes it is good and worth visiting, in spite of the crowd. I ended up not getting the famous cannoli (why did no one tell me it was the size of my head lol) and they were sold out of the famous St. Agatha boob pastry but I did get a box of cookies, all of which were delicious. I would also really recommend doing the tour of the convent and checking out the amazing rooftop views. Not crowded!!

Organic restaurant next to Palazzo Butera using all local ingredients. They also have pastas, more classic mains etc. but highlighting that you can get a very good seasonal salad here!! Mine had almonds, tomatoes, peaches, olives and cheese. Important as getting a non-sad salad in Italy is borderline impossible

The best seafood couscous. Always a blessing to have GOOD non-Italian options in Italy, their Senegalese dishes also looked really good. I sat outside on their super quiet side street!

Stay in Kalsa

The historic old town of Palermo is pretty small so it’s hard to be too far from anything, so I really recommend staying in Kalsa, which is a ~10 min walk from the center but avoids all the craziness. The neighborhood itself is quieter and more residential, yet you have Palazzo Butera, Palazzo Abutellis, Palazzao Steri and lots of bars and restaurant options steps away. I stayed at one of the Butera28 apartments which were also very reasonably priced!

Ballaro market food tour with Linda Sarris (Cheeky Chef)

Linda has lived in Ballaro for over a decade and it shows. All the vendors know her and her private tours of the Ballaro market feel like you’re on a special friends and family version of the average market tour (so many LINDA! CIAO LINDA!s heard throughout the day lol). We went to so many great spots in the market, most of which I can’t even find on Google Maps, and she knows all the local gossip and drama! Also also she is fun and keeps it real. Book with Linda!!
