Athleta salutation stash shorts 7”
•••
DO NOT ROLL and have pockets! Also I feel like these are on sale 30% of the year, I’ve yet to buy a pair at full price. I prefer the 7” for running as I feel like the 5” occasionally exposes me to thigh chafe. I’ve just stopped buying shorts from other brands and only buy these now

NYLO Fitness (Tribeca)
•••
Personal training is expensive and not for everyone, but if it’s in budget, it is life-changing. I’ve trained at a few different places and NYLO in Tribeca is my favorite—I have chronic lower back pain so was very picky when seeking out a new trainer, but the trainers here are so knowledgeable and on average much more experienced than someone you’d find at Equinox, etc. Also the gym is spotless and they don’t pack the floor with clients so you feel like you have a lot of space even when training at prime time!

Reframing sick days
•••
As someone who likes to do a lot, I typically get very grumpy about being sick and all the things I cannot do (exercising, seeing my friends, exploring the city, etc.) but have been trying to reframe being sick as an OPPORTUNITY to do many of my other favorite things that I rarely make time for: watch movies during the daytime, sit and read for hours, make a big pot of soup, do restorative yoga, say no to plans and have a fully “me” weekend, take naps… mentally this helps!!!

How to eat a lot of protein
Promix vanilla whey protein powder
•••
I hate protein powder but sometimes it’s necessary. Promix is my favorite for their clean ingredients! Subtle vanilla taste and blends really well into anything and everything. I don’t make a lot of protein shakes, but I will usually add protein powder to overnight oats and often throw a scoop or two into baked goods. I also like Promix’s unflavored whey, which has a similar neutral taste (I am not a fan of their vegan pea protein or the chocolate whey isolate, which doesn’t blend as well and can be chalky)

A proper warm up and cool down (see also: foam rolling)
•••
In my 20s, my favorite thing about running was that I could just get up and go. No commute, no warm up, just tug my shoes on, do the run, come back and shower and go about my day. NOT SO in my 30s… after years of on and off injuries and taking weeks-to-months long breaks from running, I now do a 20 minute foam roll/dynamic warm-up before every run and another 20 minute foam roll/stretch cool down after every run. Sometimes the warm up/cool down takes longer than the actual run itself, which feels insane. But nothing’s been more effective in preventing injury and keeping my body going!
