Macarena Ruiz-Tagle's Cyanometer Postcards

These postcards were made for the 13th Architecture Venice Biennale, drawing on Horace-Bénédict de Saussure's cyanometer, a tool invented in 1789 for measuring the blue of the sky. Besides the blue, Ruiz-Tagle makes variations for grading shades of sunset and polluted skies. My pal Abbey sent me one to add to my collection (I have another cyanometer by Dust Collective); it's an excellent little gift for a sky-watching friend.

By far our most commonly used notebook. We go through them like crazy, send friends and clients home with them (often) and always have one per person on the table when hosting any meeting or offsite. They punch so far above their price range. Smooth, high quality paper. Micro-perforated sheets. Available in a traditional 5" x 7" and the extremely pocketable 3" x 5". Beyond being high quality and affordable, what we love most about these little notebooks is how easy they make writing quickly. It's one of the most difficult parts of taking hand written notes, especially when you're trying to dedicate a majority of your attention to the conversation at hand as opposed to getting it all down.

Midori Notebook

Our absolute favorite 'normal' notebook. Amazing paper quality that feels great wth any writing utensil and won't bleed even with fountain pens. They're great on their own but we're using them most often in a refillable journal. We also are more often than not using Midori's paper for our spiral & binder notebook refills.

Why it works: Libra loves elegance and etiquette; Gemini loves words; Scorpio Rising loves the intimacy of private correspondence. For this giftee I'd go for cream or smoke-colored paper, oxblood or black ink, and a monogram. I'd start by checking out custom stationary here and wax seals here. 2.) Something like a curated classics subscription, literary magazine, or publisher-led book club. Vintage silver bookmark Why it works: Libra likes refinement, Gemini likes objects with function and history, Scorpio likes patina and secrets. Here are a few examples I liked on eBay. 4.) Murano coupe glasses Why it fits: Libra Sun loves the beauty of a ritual, Gemini Moon loves conversation over drinks, Scorpio Rising loves the after-dark intimacy. It’s a “come over and tell me everything” object. These are stunning and are on the more luxurious side, this gorgeous vintage pair are slightly more affordable and then these elegant glasses are even more so. 5.) A dark chocolate / tea pairing set Why it fits: Gemini Moon likes variety and sampling, Libra likes the civilized pleasure, Scorpio Rising likes bitterness, depth, and intensity. This set looks like a perfect fit.

Stalogy 365 1/2

Comes in a variety of sizes, spine folds flat, paper never bleeds but pages are a bitch and a half to tear out so you must live with what you have written. My favorite is the B6 Slim, A5 and for when I’m really inspired the A4 notepad version. Available in dot and grid, I also think it comes in blank but I’ve never personally come across it. The flagship store in Tokyo is also a sight to behold.

I'm drawn to this monthly planner by Wilde House. I used a journal of theirs last year for my morning pages / writing last year, always love their design. I've been moving away from the daily to do list to focus on action and I feel like a monthly planner might be a better framing for the year.

the art of sending mail is lost, bring it back. finding a silly postcard or small envelope to send a pal, with perhaps a sticker or flower inside, is sooo fun. tell them hey, tell them what you did that day. they’ll probably send you one back, and then every time you go to the mailbox there’s hope for something good. i adore good stationary! plus postal systems are a public service!! support them - make sure the gov’t knows they hold immense value!
