Bruno Visconti Palermo ballpoint pens: I love this pen! Writes so smoothly, surface is pleasantly velvety (not tacky), and quite petite while still having some nice weight to it.

Pilto G2: I use a 10, but the 07 is fine too.

Vintage 1992 Paper Mate Write Bros. pens: This is just an ode to the best ballpoint pens of yore. It might be worth $9.99 plus shipping to see if any of these still work, because they provided the juiciest line of ink that smelled so good. The blank ink did not hit the same as the blue. I can still feel the texture of a stack of filled notebook paper pages.

Sharpie S-Gel Fine Point (0.5mm): I put this pen out on the email signup clipboard at work, and without fail customers compliment how smoothly it writes every time. Good for writing, less preferable for drawing—I tend to lean towards an oil ink, though I do like the 0.5 tip for linework. As far as cheap gel pens go, this by far exceeds the much loved Pilot G2.

caran d’ache colormat x-849 metal ballpoint pen: gorgeous Swiss designed pen! When i worked at the Smithsonian, my French-Canadian boss carried one in his breast pocket and whipped it out in meetings. i found it uncontrollably chic! this little pop of bright orange from his pen adding flair to everyday life.

this pen comes in a wide array of colors, and you can swap out the ink (starts with black, but I’m more of a blue gal). it’s a pen you could potentially have you’re whole life, so long as you don’t lose it. i got myself one in neon yellow when i was at the famous Itoya store in Tokyo, and i love my pen.
