Civil War and Reconstruction Era, 1845-1877: This open Yale course by Prof David Blight is a podcast lecture series that I have listened to multiple times. He puts America in a new context, makes the history human-sized, and makes known outcomes full of suspense. I think about his depiction of Memorial Day every year and it makes me cry.

MIT Open Courseware Film History Class: I got the text book, followed the syllabus and watched the films on my own (usually four of five more films than listed because 2020) and then watched the lectures. And now I’m a certified film snob and I love it.

This was after going to film school for animation but I missed a lot of this basic history and always felt like a phony because of it.
