Mount Desserts Pies
•••
Every year, we start at the Salt Cottages at Bar Harbor and go down the road to pick up two pies (one Maine blueberry, one strawberry rhubarb) from this delightfully unpretentious bake shop. We slowly devour these over the course of the week for breakfast, after dinner, and it is simply the perfect taste of summer.

bonjour tristesse (2024)
•••
This is one of the most recent movies I've watched that fulfills the brief: warm with European summer vibes, shimmering with the magic and uncertainty that accompanies the metamorphosis of girl to woman. Very Sofia-coded, yet something of its own.

I can't believe I've waited this long to read this. I don't know where the story is going, but the language is so strong and so beautiful, and the pages turn themselves. This edition, in particular, is a lovely thing to hold and behold.

Boricha

Best enjoyed in high heat and humidity. Buy a bag of boricha from Hmart, boil a whole saucepan of it, and keep it in a pitcher in the fridge. So satisfying.

This was a godsend in hot-as-hell Sevilla. One part red wine, one part lemon soda (aka Sprite), then ice it up.
