Buffy the Vampire Slayer - 5x16 “The Body”
•••
An incredible episode of a seminal show. “The Body” should have garnered Sarah Michelle Gellar an Emmy nomination for her stripped-down, raw performance in an entry with little to no supernatural elements as Buffy and her friends deal with a very human experience: grief. I could cry just thinking about it. “But I don’t understand! I don’t understand how all this happens. How we go through this. I mean, I knew her, and then she’s… she’s just a body.”

"Once More, With Feeling" - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, S6E7
•••
Both the hands-down greatest musical episode of all time and one of the flat-out best TV episodes, period; the songs advance each and every character arc masterfully, the Easter eggs are weird and delightful, you can discover new things on a twentieth viewing, this reason's mostly filler.

the culmination of what all six seasons had built to at that point. hilarious moments with the whole ensemble. peak drama (pre Scandoval). THE VOICEMAIL. I wish this episode was a drug, I’d take it every day. while watching for the first time we had to rewind to watch Jax throw Tom’s phone about 12 times because it made us laugh so hard.

Better Things "Eulogy"

Ok, it is extremely icky of me to recommend an episode of television that I am in, but I promise I would choose this one anyway. A bunch of media entities named it one of the best episodes of television that year (2017), it's funny and sweet and dark and a gut punch in all the best ways... and you don't have to have seen the rest of the show to appreciate it. (And if you decide to watch the whole series after this episode, it won't spoil anything.)

honestly, there are probably 3-4 other andor episodes I would list here, but I would argue that this one is the most watchable if you're just trying to pick one to watch a little out of context HMs: s2e8, s1e12, s1e6

Chernobyl Episode 1: “1:23:45”
•••
This is a perfect episode of horror television. It’s textbook, beat by beat, so much so that it wouldn’t work as a fictional horror movie: instead, it’s a perfect horror account of real events. It manages information perfectly, tells a bunch of intertwined micro-stories, and leaves me with my jaw on the floor every time.

I’m convinced this is the best episode of any show I have ever watched - ever. It’s great because it’s also kind of a stand-alone episode that you can watch without needing to see the rest of the show. A true masterpiece - I bought a piece of art for my home that reminds me of this episode because I loved it so much.

Doctor Who (Season 3, Episode 10), "Blink"
•••
This episode follows Sally (played by Carey Mulligan), a young woman who explores an abandoned house with her friend Kathy. Sally finds unnerving messages addressed to her specifically underneath peeling wallpaper, and suddenly her friend mysteriously vanishes. Trying to find some answers, Sally is left with only the help of Kathy's brother and cryptic DVDs from a time traveler warning her of the growing danger around her, and time is not on Sally's side. This is one of the best pieces of television I've ever seen. It's a great entry point into Doctor Who, but it also stands incredibly well on its own. If you like an intriguing mystery and a tiny, baby-sized bit of horror, I feel like this scratches that itch!
