(Boring but) I have a list of gift ideas in my notes app

When I have an idea or see something for someone, I just add it to my notes app. People I buy gifts for often, like my kid or sister, I have a whole note for. I have a saved folder here for “gifts” for things I think certain loved ones would like. Then, when the time comes, I don’t feel pressure. Also, if the inspiration strikes, I just gift it then and there.

Wear all your favorites at once.

When I am overthinking or in a rut, I just pick my favorite in every category. It really takes the pressure off. Favorite shirt! Favorite belt! Favorite pants! Etc. They might not obviously go together but they probably actually are complementary because they have you in common. It feels good to wear favorites and be reminded you have things you like, things that make you excited.

Our public library system is top tier! And though it’s still far away, our public school system is amazing! Long live BPL and BUSD! You’re gonna love it here. If you’re looking for a preschool, CCC is an OG parent participation preschool with the best teachers. You’ll learn so much as a parent and build community. My kid and I both went there.

As soon as the days begin getting shorter, we call it “Candle Season” and light candles for each dinner. Even breakfast too. It makes everything a cozy delight and we can celebrate the seasons’ change rather than mourn the loss of summer. In spring, we put screens on our door and “Open Door Season” commences with open doors all day.

Seems obvious to rec this classic and awks since she’s on RL, but this book changed how I think about food, troubleshoot/amend what I’m cooking and many recipes have become go-tos in our family. We have the slaw all the time and the buttermilk roasted chicken taught me that I can roast a chicken!

When I was 17 I spent a month learning “primitive” outdoor survival in the desert of Utah. It fundamentally changed my understanding of self, my resiliency and my abilities while also striping away the noise and complexity of daily life. I gained a deep well of self-respect which I’ve quietly carried ever since. I’m not saying this is for everyone but I believe in the power of pushing yourself bigbig and deep contemplation. *During this course I also met the loml with whom I reconnected and married years later. This serendipitous love taught me I’m intrinsically lovable as is and that life is a bit magical.

Is resplendent with black boots. Favorites of my closet are these black Rachel Comey and these western-style Celine (these are brown but I love them!) Pay attention to how different brands do sizing and shimmy your searches accordingly. I bought the RC booties for $70 4 years ago and they continue to delight.

I am a 42-yo post-cancer medical menopause person who is returning to periods again (🫠🫠🫠) after 6 years of ovary/hormone suppression. I feel like my body is learning to menstruate again. I do all the things to help. Probably a shotgun method worked but I credit acupuncture with returning me back to life in about one cycle. I went from being unable to breathe, calling out of work, fetal position while on 3 ibuprofen to being able to participate in regular life. Life-changing. *everyone in this photo is wearing a suit??

Daisy Jones & The Six (Taylor Jenkins Reid)

This audiobook was read by a whole cast so the experience felt very rich and cinematic. The book is told from each band member and some side characters so having a cast read really lead to it feeling like you’re hearing interviews with many people in a way that I think might’ve been lost in reading alone.

The only lip balm sunscreen I have found that doesn’t taste horrible (it’s minty) or make me look like a corpse. I’ve tried so many. Wears more like a gloss than balm, which is not my preference, but having something not gross goes far. Comes in clear and five shades. $14

Prequel skincare, hypochlorous acid spray from skinsmart, ice roller and rx Sulfacetamide Sodium / Sulfur face wash from my doc (rx)

When I have a flare, I wash my face gently, spray my hypochlorous acid, use plenty of gentle lotion and probably add some cerave healing ointment to lock in the moisture. Good luck!!
