My ideal white button-down, this shirt travels easily; fits me in three sizes; tucks, hangs, and cuffs well for styling optionality; and is a true all-season textile. I also own the Max in five other fabrics, but this one is elite. I need to buy a backup or three.

How is this white shirt different from all the others? I added a tiny bit of stretch (3% to be exact) so when you pull the sleeves up, my favorite styling trick with a white shirt, they actually stay there.

This is basic, but it’s so timeless. I get giddy to pull mine out every autumn. Mine is from Sezane and one of my best clothing purchases to date.

I’ve been wearing primarily ARQ underwear for many years and they remain my favorite—comfortable, beautiful, well and ethically-made, soft, good thickness, last for ages. They’re expensive at first but then you prefer them to all others and they outlast all others and the price memory softens. I started with the high-waisted but now the French-cut high-legged Mishas are my favorite. I also love the tanks. I have a huge old collection now and when some wear out or they come out with some good colors, I’ll buy a few and retire the old tried-and-trues. IMO tops run tts and bottoms run a bit big (I wear m-l in most bottoms but s-m in arq undies).

The Curated Closet for your entire life
Some years ago, my bestie @Caro got me on Curated Closet, and we worked through it together. It gives you a really helpful framework for defining your personal style/aesthetic and building a wardrobe around the colors, shapes, and pieces that suit your taste and works for your lifestyle. It absolutely did that, but the life-changing part was realizing the same framework could be applied to so many other areas of life. One of the main things: It helped me embrace that I do love color (at a time when everything was beige/gray!). There’s a sub category to my wardrobe for when it comes to my ballet aesthetic. Also helped me get clearer about jewelry and accessories, even scents. I use the same principles to decorate my home, and now I’m using them to plan my wedding. Basically, it taught me how to identify what I like and then trust myself to choose accordingly—without the noise of trends and being stuck on having so many choices.

I know other apps exist now but Stylebook was the first and it is still my favorite. You can be as hands-off or as intense with it as you want. It has a calendar for logging and planning outfits which automatically calculates use per wear once logged. The app is bootstrapped and your information remains private. It’s a very small team so they don’t update it much but they are receptive to feedback and make changes based on user needs.

Tailoring your clothes is a revelation! It’s not my job to fit the clothes! The clothes fit ME! The clothes work for ME! I’m the boss! I used to only have occasion wear tailored but recently that I started doing this for daily clothes. Wearing clothes that fit well feels so good.
