Leave it to the commercial fisherman to recommend the best gear. If it's good enough to handle the raging sea, it's good enough for me... Purchased the mens because I felt like it, it works out because it's roomier to fit a sweatshirt underneath, because it's not very warm!

Norwegian Rain - Waterproof Outerwear
T-Michael makes gorgeous raincoats and outerwear! They are pricey but occasionally you can find a used NR garment online (I’m keeping an eye out for one for myself). The storefront in Bergen (an exceptionally rainy city) is very stylish and calm.

This is a Swedish all-weather dog walking anorak. Loads of pockets, utterly bomb proof, an hood that laughs at monsoons. If you’re not sold on this, reconsider your life choices.

Listen. This is not the stylish thing and flimsy little trench coat you wear for a sprinkling of rain. This is your Harry Potter cloak that’s had the impervio spell cast on it, you WILL not get wet even while trudging through a full on shower (with good water pressure). Good hood, extra long length, a little drawstring for waist nipping,this has got your outfit COVERED. OH, did I mention there’s colors? Now they’re just spoiling us.

On the few occasions I actually get to wear my Rains jacket in Los Angeles I’m amazed by how impenetrable it is! I got it in the Netherlands and there’s no one I trust more when it comes to fighting off water than the Dutch. Simple design, truly keeps you dry, and isn’t bulky or cumbersome at all. they have ones that are maybe a little bit cuter but I like this one because it feels like a rain uniform.

You are not moving to Paris for the weather. Choose your preferred color way of their "long jacket," and never look back. I moved to Paris in September, and my Parisian husband-to-be immediately took me to the Marais to pick out a rain jacket at RAINS. I'm still wearing and loving this jacket, 7 years later. My husband loves his (he prefers the short version), and my mom also bought the long. You can always get a trench coat in addition, but there will be many days and weeks when you will be very happy to have this utilitarian rain jacket.

This is my ideal rain jacket. Best suited for the warmer months but I also carry it into the fall for heavy downpour days (with more insulating layers underneath). It’s lightweight, reflective, fits great under a helmet and has a handful of other small + thoughtful design considerations that make it a delight to wear. I opted for this over their rain cape but that’s my next purchase!
