I’ve used this service in the past for a black-tie wedding. Good for trying out a suit or tux style, and getting measurements before fully committing to a purchase.
IMO Hartford makes the gold standard men’s classic dress shirt. It’s a French cut (narrow), so sometimes it makes sense to size up (esp if you have broad shoulders or are planning to wear an undershirt, which is always a good idea w/ any white dress shirt I think). A bit pricey but endlessly wearable - dress up or down!

This is delving into “most secret recommendations” for me, but (1) I shouldn’t gatekeep, that’s why we are all here, and (2) maybe they’re famous beyond my wildest dreams and I never knew! Kamakura shirts. These are my “reach” shirts. They are not so inexpensive that I buy one once a week, but they are not so expensive that it will break the bank. Kamakura is in New York and in Japan. Everything they make is beautiful. Custom or pre-made, this is the ideal place to get a nice dress shirt! I highly recommend stopping by their locations if you get the chance!

I have had shirts made by tailors, and Proper Cloth shirts fit as well or better. I measured my favorite fitting shirt and saved those measurements. Now my orders come and the shirts fit. There are endless choices of fabric, buttons, collar styles, etc. I have only had two shirts arrive with issues, and refunds were easy. Highly recommended.

Ideally I'd just have a closet with one in every color.
in particular: their pleated trousers and knitwear. he's been collecting pieces from here over the last couple of years, and they're made of nice weighty fabrics and have held up beautifully. clothes for the guy who loves colors/patterns/looking cool but doesn't want his outfits to necessarily scream FASHION (honestly same)

Classic, American style
These are by all accounts the holy loafers. I regret that I got the calfskin on the Copley last and at some point will bite the bullet and get these with shell cordovan on the Van last, which is a slightly chunkier and substantial construction. I feel like you have to be careful with loafers going into dainty territory around the toe and the heel, which is not the case with these

Bass Weejuns are it. Value and quality are maxed out. As old money as it gets if you gaf about that. Basically like slippers after a little breaking in but comfortable enough out the gate.
