The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night - The Besnard Lakes
•••
Jagjaguwar/Outside Music (2010) Montreal's The Besnard Lakes have been releasing glorious space rock since the early 2000s and I think this is their best album. I've got a soft spot for their debut and I like all of their music since (last year's Ghost Nation was excellent) but The Roaring Night is a particularly exhilarating listen, it's the sound of a band at their peak opening all of the jets. Crank Albatross or And This Is What We Call Progress for "The Bezzies" at their star-screaming best. Saw them live a couple of times and they clean knocked my socks off. The 21st century's most underrated band? I reckon so.

The Bureau (Le bureau des légendes)
•••
Not just the best espionage show of all time but one of the greatest shows ever in any genre. A thrilling series about the secret world of spies. The intrigue. The complex and conflicted characters, major and minor, who are superbly portrayed. The skullduggery and political game playing. The fantastic production and the killer soundtrack. The Bureau is a show to sink into and savour. I’ve watched it twice and will watch it again soon because I find myself thinking about it often and most other series seem trite in comparison (especially the extraneous US remake).

Barcelona
Vermut
•••
I’ve jumped on the vermouth bandwagon while living in Barcelona. The Spanish stuff is delicious and super popular here - sweet but not overly so, rich and refreshing. Serve straight with orange and olives, or whack some soda in if so desired. Nice with your cava as a spritz. A staple in the fridge over summer. Me encanta. This bottle is a go to, about 4 euros in a supermarket.
