Super dry and crisp white wine from Basque Country! A little salty and a little citrusy. I tried it at a wine bar near my house and then realized I could buy it at Whole Foods which I've been doing every summer since.
Vibrant and mineral-driven white from the cooler northern slopes of Mt. Etna. Made from native Sicilian varieties grown on volcanic soils, it’s a wine of precision, tension, and layered complexity. Saline, citrusy, and full of energy.
This wine is a bit of a splurge but I call it the trifecta! Gorgeous label, delicious unique wine, and amazing founder story. Merry Edward’s is credited for popularizing Pinot noir and Sauvignon Blanc in the Russian River Valley and is an iconic women in wine. The wine has been fermented in French barrels and aged in lees giving the wine texture and flavor. The wine tasted like tropical fruit like mangos and papayas with a hint of seaweed. DELISH!
One of the best bottles I’ve ever had. The 2022 was tight and flinty with enormous depth and powerful concentration. Paired well with the Smoked dungeness crab claw at harbor house in Elk, CA
Perfect!
pinot gris skin contact from Alsace!! elegant and refined-- not funky at all! orange rind, honey comb, stone fruit, with a savory herbaceous structured edge. I sold our last bottle of this at work last night and I'm sad about it!!
This Sicilian wine is made from the red Nerello Mascalese grape by direct pressing to avoid skin contact, creating a blanc de noir style. Sourced from volcanic soils on Mt. Etna, it's known for intense minerality, bright acidity, and notes of citrus, stone fruit, and saline, with a texture similar to a light red wine.
This one is from Eastern Macedonia on mainland Greece, a father-daughter duo farming at like a thousand feet elevation which is so cool. It's a fuller bodied Assyrtiko but don't let that fool you, the salty mineral finish is everything. Tastes like spiced apples and crackly melon rind and it's the perfect pairing for fried calamari or honestly any salty snack situation. Around $23 and the label is super clean and understated.
Visited this tenuta on one of our trips to Amalfi Coast and it’s where I fell in love with these hot climate Italian whites that are fresh but also a bit funky and waxy and salty There are a bunch of varietals but this one is mostly Falanghina 2/3 excellent
YUMMY! I went to Etra after my opening shift at Etoile and drank this while sitting at the bar. Delicious with their arugula, peas, and burrata salad. Took the second half home, exciting to see how it evolves after opening. Pinot Blanc from Alsace. 40% stainless, 40% used barrel, and 20% new barrel. Elegant, soft, white floral and white peach notes with a hint of frangipan and vanilla while still maintaining acid that imparts a zippy mineral finish.
This is a marvelous Cuvée and I should really have a case tucked away for special occasions.
Great summer wine. Effortlessly light, all pear, lemon, and stone. A mineral driven, less tropical expression of Sauvignon - blended with 20% Chardonnay, which adds a subtle softness to an otherwise vibrant and textured wine.
I had a bottle of the 2008 vintage the other day and all I'll say is... wow! I think this might be one of my favorite wines I've had all year. Knoll is an incredible estate and Schütt is a beautiful vineyard. If you're looking for a gift for a wine lover or you yourself want to try something truly special, I can't recommend this enough. Wachau rieslings are different than German or more specifically Mosel rieslings (which I love as well), they are more structured and with more fruit characteristics. This is bone dry and has racy acidity with balancing fruit and structure. Open it now or even in ten years, it's going to be amazing!
Matthiasson released two sparkling wines this year! An embarrassment of riches! This one is a blanc de blanc style that is zippy and fresh with fine bubbles and a bit of toast in the nicely lingering palate 2/3 excellent
This white is pure bliss. Silky and soft with soft golden pear and great mineral notes that reveal themselves after a decant, or on day two
Not a sweet wine person? This is your wine. Bone-dry, super saline, tastes like crushed oyster shells in the best way. It's aged sur lie which just means it sat on dead yeast for a while and came out creamier for it. Organic, Loire Valley, cute little retro boat on the label. Like $16-20 which is insane for what it is.
Terra Vita Vinum wines are STUNNING. I drank the 2022 Grand Vau Anjou Blanc (aka 100% Chenin Blanc) with my friend at Bar Jabroni if SF. I can't seem to find that exact cuvee online in the US, but here is another one of their site specific wines. The yellow dot is where the vineyard is! So special!
Zipadee doo dah! 3/3 exceptional
Charmed, I'm sure!
nice subtle acidity, decent bubbles, balanced sweetness
While I’ve never met a PM I don’t like, the one at Merrie Mill is sure to be the crowd pleaser everyone will love. On the nose it’s rich with stone fruit (think peaches) and on the palate there’s an explosion of flavor with medium plus acidity, ripe fruits, and tons of flavor. My favorite white from the visit!
Is this the perfect white wine? Any temp, any season, any food, any mood… somehow it is crisp and rich and angular and round and fruit and mineral and everything except oak (thankfully) 3/3 exceptional
