First day of school meal: When my girls started school the tradition of pesto pasta and ice cream cake began. This was on our menu for every first and last day until they both graduated from HS. The first day of school can be complicated- nerves, worries and excitement rolled into one. Looking forward to a favorite meal takes a bit of the pressure off.

Neighborhood first day of school pic: It's almost that time - send a text to your neighbors a few days before school starts to meet on your porch the morning of the first day of school. You will not regret starting this when they're young. Invite new families as they move in. A dad in the neighborhood frames these and gives them out as Christmas presents every year.
