Circle of Control
•••
My morning pages recently called my attention to how much energy my constant list making (which would range from picking up clothes in the bathroom to general directives like reactivate professional networks) robbed from me. I like dreaming and at my toughest times, I’ve been prone to inertia. List making, and breaking those lists into manageable steps was one way I fought the stagnation. But somewhere in my addled brain, this very specific process became a millstone that I was trying to use as a lawnmower. Reorientation to what you can control is so essential to breaking free of the drive toward perfection that my dad called “letting better get in the way of good enough.” Spending 45 minutes doing the thing is better than planning all the steps. And resting when you aren’t doing is better than spending three hours ruminating on what you need to do. The doing. Always the doing.

Beyond Fixing the World: Embracing the Cracks and Creating Sanctuary (Bayo Akomolafe)
•••
TL/DR: My mind will be reeling forever inside the edges of a cosmic fissure opened by this conversation. - so much to hear and dream and write about within this. The image of liminal space as a wabi sabi crack in reality that can open in any space between anything - as reality proliferates systems and pendulums and sloshes heat around - that these cosmic cracks exist not to be smoothed over with gold but to be explored like a path into another dimension - possibly filled with light. Bayo Akomolafe describes the field beyond right and wrong. The magic space of the threshold. The potential for creolization as an antidote and response to colonialism. Top notch - thanks for the mindblowing rec @Haley James

My Analog Life
Story Graph
•••
This app has changed my life. I wanted to read more “analog” books, and utilize my public library, but every time I found a book I wanted to read it was either not available or had about 1000 weeks of a hold. Easy to use, I have increased my reading satisfaction and to read list by 1000% - a great place for me to store all your book recs. I have a goal of 25 books for the year - I’m still five books behind on pace, but it’s very motivating to know that, and it pushes me.
