Bourdain shows up to a photo shoot with two duffle bags as he just finished filming the first season of No Reservations in 2005, he’s traveling, they discuss the most interesting items in his bags. Found on a cassette tape. So many quotable things on this one I don’t know where to start.

Write for one hour a day - timed

The trick for me is to stop when I still want to keep writing, so there’s something waiting for me the next day. Leave it unfinished. The momentum will still be there tomorrow. I get more done this way than I do trying to grind for four hours in one sitting. It’s healthier too. When the hour is up, I move my body and go do something else. Gotta protect the creativity. Obvi there are times in life I have to write for 6-8 hours every day, but this is at least my normal.

This is such a cool architectural landscape and sculpture garden. The architects and artists there also grow trees and make GIANT potters onsite as part of their botany projects. You might stumble into a secret tree house garden. You might find skate boarders landing tricks behind bonsai trees. This place will make you look and feel cool in the only way Zurich knows how.

I admit, I planted this years ago because of my love for Anne of Green Gables. I was on a wistful journey to grow a sentimental garden (I also planted Roald Dahl roses but they didn’t make it, and Emily Brontë roses…she also succumbed to a harsh NY winter). This rose, my god, I could sit and smell her all day. I also love her rich apricot petals.

They're weird, beautiful little portals into someone else's brain. I don't think there's a better dollar-for-dollar investment in creative inspiration, or art for that matter. I search them out when I travel (bc zine people are the best people). I buy them from friends.

Adornment in Raphael Paintings

Long gold chain necklaces. Jeweled cauls. Sheer veils. Cabochon gemstone and signet rings. Even pomanders—ornate pendants filled with herbs, ambergris, or spices to wear as perfume. I went to the Raphael show at the Met, and all I could think about was how the women he painted absolutely understood jewelry styling. And the way he painted hands? Divine.
