In the morning, put some tea and some fruit in a container filled with water and let it sit on the counter. The next day, strain it. That’s it. That’s the whole process.

Picked a bag up at Granville Market ages ago - found it in the cupboard so cooked it for breakfast with chicken stock, onion, celery, shiitake, and a couple of new potatoes from the garden - so good. Will be eating more wild rice.

My boyfriend didn’t believe me but they keep the water in just fine. I diyed mine by adding buttonholes to a linen sheet and some gauzy linen fabric. DIY or purchase, linen dries quickly, is easily washed, lasts forever, and makes the sound of the shower extra soothing.

Anything can be put in a galette

Years ago an out of town friend called and asked, “can a friend of mine stay at your place this weekend?” It was wildly inconvenient but I felt obliged, so I said yes. The person who arrived turned out to be deeply smart, kind, funny. The afternoon of her departure, she made me a galette. I’d never had one before, and it was delicious, and ever since I’ve been convinced that galettes are the chicest dessert (and hostess gift) ever.
