Think Mazzy’s beautiful, pillowy ache with a sprinkle of a Petty-esque twangle jangle. A lovely record start to finish. Favorites: The Hook, Angel Number, Actor

Just remembered this track from the “Pig” (2021) soundtrack — heavy Mazzy Star vibes.

Susan Anway’s vocals on their first two albums are mare’s-tail clouds caressing a full moon. 1KFF is a ferally perfect song.

Different Stars by Trespassers William (2002)
•••
A dreamy, hushed record that sounds like Mazzy Star’s quieter cousin. Anna-Lynne Williams’ whisper-close vocals float over slow-burning shoegaze guitars, aching and intimate rather than dramatic. Best late night, headphones on.

The fact this only has 155k views on YouTube is unjust!!! 100 of those are me! History of a Feeling (the album she’s playing from here) is a perfect album and I feel very strongly that all of you should listen to it.

... and because I'm already thinking Björk, her early band The Sugarcubes is really awesome, and has that freaky '90s femme-fronted rock band vibe that you'd get with The Cranberries and Fiona Apple

Björk - "Debut"
•••
This album is so amazing – it shares the weirdness of fiona apple and the cranberries, and is also just extremely catchy ("Big Time Sensuality" is always kind of my go-to "first day of springtime" song). i think because her visual aesthetic can be so over the top and cuckoo it's easy to imagine this album would be abrasive and hyper, but it's actually quite restrained

starkisser - sucré
•••
stacy king (of the band eisley - remember them??) has been consistently putting out banger albums under her solo act, sucré. it absolutely boggles the mind how little attention this work has gotten, given stacy's bona fides. she's one of our greatest vocalists and songwriters, and the production work here is equal parts ethereal and brutal. this album is largely about the death of her mom a few years ago, so i guess trigger warning for dead mom stuff. favorite tracks: mid-july, head out the window, raise hell, bloody

Suki Waterhouse

Based on your taste, I'd start with songs like, "To Get You," "Could've Been a Star," "Notting Hill," "Moves," and "Good Looking" and go from there. I know she's married to the most famous man on the planet and opened for Taylor Swift or whatever, but she's criminally underrated in my opinion. INCREDIBLE songwriter, impeccable taste. Astonishing body of work in a relatively small window of time.
