Song Exploder - Sadness As a Gift
•••
I am totally obsessed with Adrianne Lenker!! I think this song is actually perfect and really loved hearing all about how it was made. I generally think Song Exploder is a great podcast and this episode is especially magical.

The Avett Brothers - Emotionalism (2007)
•••
I really love this album! The Avett Brothers used to be my favorite band and I still love their old stuff a lot. I agree it has a very cozy/fall-y vibe.

Nothing Completed - Joshua Burnside
•••
Will never not recommend Joshua Burnside!!! This one is an ear worm for me lately and is musical perfection. I am again using my tiny platform on rec league to beg him to come play in NC!

First Love/Late Spring
•••
I think this might be the best song?? There are definitely a lot of great candidates, but I think this is a strong contender. It's hard to say exactly what makes it so excellent, but when I first heard it part of me kind of felt like I'd always known it. Also Mitski is amazing and put on one of the best shows I've ever seen (and I have been to a lot of concerts!). Wild women don't get the blues, but I find that lately I've been crying like a tall child. So please, hurry leave me, I can't breathe. Please don't say you love me.

So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings - Squirrel Flower
•••
I’m way too indecisive to officially declare this my favorite cover, but I really love this cover. The original is great, but for some reason I think that the cover speaks to me even more?? I don’t know I go back-and-forth about it. They are very different. This one is more… Emo maybe? In case you were wondering Squirrel Flower is also great live.

The Beths - Tiny Desk Concert
•••
Just saw these folks in concert for the second time and remembered how lovely they are. I think this video does a great job of capturing both their magical music and their (slightly awkward) charm! If you are into The Beths you should also check out their blog Breakfastandtravelupdates.com.

Sarah Jarosz - Cattails (Big Thief Cover)
•••
A lovely cover. Particularly perfect if you (like me) are a fan of both Big Thief and clawhammer banjo. I really like Sarah Jarosz. She’s got great music of her own and some other very pleasant covers on YouTube (especially recommend her Kacey Musgraves and Frank Sinatra covers).

It's Not Going to be Okay (Joshua Burnside)
•••
This is my favorite album of 2026. Joshua Burnside is the best new (to me) musician I’ve stumbled onto in the last year. I have been daydreaming about booking a flight to Ireland or Northern Ireland to catch one of his shows. I’m very much hoping he’ll make it to North Carolina one of these days.

Beach Bunny - Full Session - 11/19/2019

This band is pure joy. This session is great and I really recommend all of their music. I would also HIGHLY recommend seeing them live if you have a chance. I’ve been to two of their shows and both were a blast.

Another underwatched tiny desk! This one features poppy, funny tunes by a very charming girl group (who tragically hasn’t put out music since 2016). If you ever wanted to hear a love song with lyrics about Law & Order SVU look no further!
