Humming Bee Breath
•••
Looks kinda nuts, but very simple to do. Requires very little effort and is super effective, especially if you experience sensory overload with your anxiety. You basically cover your eyes, plug your ears, and hum each breath. This is a technique used during childbirth, so that’s saying a lot! Hope you get some peace soon 💛

IM NOT A DOCTOR so do your own research! But this amino acid genuinely changed my life when I started dealing with postpartum anxiety. I take one capsule in the morning with my coffee (it really smooths out the caffeine jitters) and another about an hour before bed.

Sleeping with your cats
•••
Feeling the breath patterns of my cat Leo while he lays by my side, back or chest lulls me to sleep 💤 And then my other cat George will nuzzle into the crook of my bent legs, and I’m in cat heaven 🐱 Warning: you may get woken up early, but it’s worth it.

i love a restorative inversion! the most delicious thing to do after a day spent on your feet, after a long-haul flight, or just for a calming evening ritual. activate the parasympathetic nervous system, improve circulation, lymphatic drainage, reduce swelling/pain, relieve tension. so simple, so good.

Somatics
•••
Learning about and practising somatics has truly changed my mind-body connection. There are so many simple movements you can do to help release stagnant energy, ground yourself, and regulate your nervous system. This is my friend & teacher's website, but there are many offerings out there to explore, both in person and from your home. Sending so much love <3

Silly little mental health walks in nature
•••
Just left the house for the first time in 9 days to go for a silly lil mental health walk in nature and found myself bawling my eyes out at this rainbow lorikeet just hanging outside his lil tree stump house. We stared into each other's eyes for a good 10 mins until he decided that was enough and retreated back inside his lil tree hole.

Retroid Pocket Classic Handheld
$149
•••
Can’t leave the house without this little guy. Helps lower my anxiety and stress, as well as access the whimsy of playing FFIX whenever I want. After my cat passed away, in an unexpected and traumatic way, playing Tetris on the retroid helped me process some of that trauma and kept me sane for months following her death.

(It’s from the soundtrack of Theory of Everything but I discovered it through Adam Rippon’s skating routine like 3 Olympics ago and it’s been chillout music ever since. …also the link doesn’t want to give me a preview so have a funny. Other good anxiolytics: I’m a big fan of most Novo Amor, and Killer and the Sound (mash up by Noah Gundersen and Phoebe Bridgers) has a permanent place on my CHILL OUT playlist. I mean, I also recommend anti-anxiety medication and therapy! but that’s probably not what you’re asking for. oh and: if you find this kind of thing doesn’t help at all, you may need be a fight vs freeze kinda person and be low on the followthrough of doing something: try dancing around the kitchen or aggressive scrubbing or some other short not intimidating cardio. Pretend the thing making you anxious is a pillow (or bread dough if you bake) and punch it. (I like dancing.)
