Flip and Stab Your Peanut Butter

Love Teddie PB, but I don’t love when the oil dribbles over the side when I’m mixing it and the jar is then vaguely oily forever (Sensory Defensives unite!). Two recs: Store the jar upside down so when it separates the oil goes to the top (which is the bottom). When you mix it start by just stabbing the knife into the middle of the PB. Grip like Norman Bates. Slowly at first. Just stab. Just in the middle. Like you’re using a plunger, but yummy. With a little patience this will work the oil in. Once there’s no more standing oil you are past the danger zone and you can really dig in to the edges and stir for all you’re worth. Really put your back into it until it’s smooth af.

Mug of Measuring Spoons on the Counter

Ready to grab and go, liberated from their split rings so they don’t jangle against each other when you use them. Bonus points for putting them in a mug you like looking at. One less hitch in your getalong. Also don’t miss @Kelsey’s excellent rec: buy extra tablespoons!

Throw in half a tub of baby spinach

Hate veggies but love pasta and stews and stuff? Throw in half a tub of baby spinach at the very end. You’ll barely notice it (I promise!) and you’ll eat at least one green thing today. Heck, sometimes you can throw in the whole tub and the dish is none the worse for wear.

Ah the late great Dennis Farina! One of our family idioms for good-naturedly getting somebody to lighten up. Also Midnight Run is a classic. Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin’s rapport is unmatched and also maybe the first time I realized how funny DeNiro could be.

The built-in leveler on the baking powder container

It’s such a tiny thing but literally every time I use this built-in edge to level my scoop of baking powder I feel a little surge of gratitude to the people who pay attention to the details that grease the skids of life.
