Robert Pattinson’s GQ cover story during Covid
•••
If you have a minute today, I implore you to read this profile. I have never looked at Robert Pattinson the same way (complimentary) since reading. It would be easy to explain away the weirdness as a Covid-era temporary insanity, but I am convinced that this is exactly how nuts he is to his core and I think that is lovely.

“Romeo and Juliet” Dire Straits
•••
This has been in heavy rotation for me since high school. A nearly perfect song. Great guitar, beautiful lyrics, heavy longing. Allegedly inspired by Holly Vincent saying she used to “have a scene” with Mark Knopfler but “he couldn’t handle it” and he was so sad about that that he rewrote their story with him as Romeo. We love a delusional sadboi with serious guitar chops.

Idk i Just think the aliens would need to experience this. Plus an el presidente margarita. A recipe for a great time and also a tummy ache if you're over 30

While My Guitar Gently Weeps
•••
So many iconic moments in this video: the bodyguard lean, the disappearing guitar, the trying to get on with the "while my guitar gently weeps" while they are being reduced to their molecular structure with the force of this guitar solo, but the best moment is when Dhani Harrison in the background sees Prince coming and gets the biggest, brightest smile on his face. He knows.

Purple Rain at the Superbowl

If the aliens came, I think this is what I would show them to understand America. I watch this a few times a year. It should go without saying but the whole performance is worth watching.
