In the depths of my cancer and despair, I would often say this to myself. I needed to know there was more to life than where I was right then. Now I still say it, in the good moments too, because life, beauty, hardship are all fleeting, transient and part of the fullness of life.

The Summer Day (Mary Oliver) There’s something to be said for not being productive, not scheduling or creating projects for ourselves and children. People always read this well-known poem as needing to maximize! Do all the things! Take advantage of our one wild and precious life! I think having fallow times, being slow and bored and watching a bug or listening to leaves, sitting near a loved one, are the precious things.
