Sheep Wool Slippers
$38
•••
I bought these cozy slippers for my kid and they adore them. They’re wool with a leather bottom and very well-priced for what they are imo.

Welcome!!

Our public library system is top tier! And though it’s still far away, our public school system is amazing! Long live BPL and BUSD! You’re gonna love it here. If you’re looking for a preschool, CCC is an OG parent participation preschool with the best teachers. You’ll learn so much as a parent and build community. My kid and I both went there.

Wunderundies
•••
Genderfluid, supremely soft boxers for sensory-sensitive adults and kids in very dorky patterns. Ultimate hang out undies. Beloved by both me and my nb kid. I recommended them to my friend who gifted them to her wife. The reaction: “they make underwear for me??! These are so soft! These underwear make me want to be a better person.”

Bike Beam bike light
•••
Made by a lovely friend in the Bay Area. I love this bike light. It gives 360 visibility with a lot of height, which helps me feels more at ease when I’m riding pre-dawn. I can chose the color to my mood. Easy to install. USB recharge occasionally.

Buying cool tween clothes on the real real
•••
When your kid sizes into adult xxs or xs, you can find crazy deals for used/vintage wear that is priced to move since it doesn’t fit many adults. This is especially good for knitwear and boots. Ultra-flared wool slacks! Full body cashmere! Cool-ass combat boots for $40. Here my kid is wearing a cool $14 merino wool sweater and some wool slacks. I love buying lovely, used things.

Going Halvsies with your Kid
•••
For big purchases that your kid wants, have them pay for part of it. It could be half or something else you agree upon. We did this when I was a kid and we are now doing it with our kid. It’s wonderful to see in your child the pride, ownership, gratitude and fiscal understanding that grows through contributing. But of course, we adults have more money-making abilities than our kids, so it’s nice to help. Today my kid used their carefully saved cat-sitting money to buy things for their room decor, then said, beaming “thank you thank you! We did it!!” Priceless.

Aim for Yes
•••
Yes! I think I originally heard this from Cup of Jo and have used it as a guiding parenting principle. Related mantras: save my nos. (Don’t dilute the power of a no. Only use it when you mean it) And: don’t pick up the rope. As in tug-of-war. Is this something I need to push and pull about? Does this need to be a power struggle?

Yoto Kids Screen-Free Audio Player
•••
Yoto players are a wonderful, screen-free device that kids can use independently to listen to audiobooks and music. You buy and use cards— the selection is good and the quality is incredible. We were very slow to introduce media and tech to our kid and this felt like the perfect first thing. They carry it around the garden with them or listen to books over and over while doing art, even at nearly 11. We got the mini. Great for travel. Yes, there are earphones. Five years in and the use and interest has never dwindled.
