From Gabrielle: sun-faded curtains found in abandoned american homes and stretched over wooden frames. the faded fabrics reveal imprints of windows–not quite painting, not quite photography, not quite sculpture, but somehow all three

100 Chairs in 100 Days
•••
Martini Gamper, Artist Statement: I collected discarded chairs from London streets (or more frequently, friends’ homes) over a period of about two years. My intention was to investigate the potential of creating useful new chairs by blending together the stylistic and structural elements of the found ones. The process produced something like a three-dimensional sketchbook, a collection of possibilities. I wanted to question the idea of there being an innate superiority in the one-off and used this hybrid technique to demonstrate the difficulty of any one design being objectively judged The Best. I also hope my chairs illustrate — and celebrate — the geographical, historical and human resonance of design: what can they tell us about their place of origin or their previous sociological context and even their previous owners? For me, the stories behind the chairs are as important as their style or even their function.

weed by tony matelli
•••
From Brooke: “Tony Matelli’s Weed sculptures look like actual weeds growing out of the floor. They’re cast in bronze and painted to look insanely real. In art school, we would have said they’re about resilience and the tension between nature and society or something like that. I don’t know, they’re funny!”

Clotilde Olyff's pebble alphabets
•••
Clotilde Olyff spent over a decade finding pebbles that look like letters, then assembled them into complete sets. Her stone alphabets were originally published in 2000 by Jan Middendorp in Lettered Typefaces and Alphabets by Clotilde Olyff (I have been searching for a copy of this book for YEARS) and featured in 3D Typography (2010).

So insanely beautiful. ”All Around the Room” is an immersive installation which brings a recorded trance experience of young Shaker visionist Ann Mariah Goff into ephemeral form. Combining the concept of “borrowed light” (natural sunlight) in Shaker architecture with an 1837 transcription that describes dream-like visits to the City of Paradise.

Artist Anna Condo

Forgive the pun, but I find such a visual deliciousness in her work. Her “A La Carte” series is exceptional and I keep coming back to them (especially Le Jambon). It’s engrossing and dizzying in a way that harkens Hockney (a fav of mine).

The Art of Illusion: Jacques Monneraud’s Deceptive Ceramics
•••
In the vein of Magritte’s “Ceci n'est pas une pipe”… this is NOT cardboard. It’s ceramic. Thrown on a pottery wheel and then meticulously textured to look like the basic and disposable material that it is not. Always in awe.

Marble as food - Milan Design Week
•••
Archidork mode: Activated For Milan Design Week 2026, Samir Bantal, director of AMO, was invited by SolidNature to design this year’s installation for the Designboom Room for Dreams exhibition. As long-standing collaborators with SolidNature, Bantal and AMO reinterpreted the everyday and the mundane – in this case, shopping for groceries – to create a world of wonder where products made from various types of natural stone are displayed on stone shelves.

The Cremaster Cycle

There should be a @Rec League badge for anyone who binges this in one sitting. Anyone can have an intimate relationship with the Cremaster films or the sculptures ... anyone can access them from any point; from fashion, horror movies, architecture, drawing, photography, football, plastics—or just story-telling. The whole project is so porous; there are a million ways to enter it. —Matthew D. Ryle, production designer, Cremasters 1, 2, 3, and 5

In Between East and West: Zhang Hongtu in Conversation
•••
McDonald’s containers forged in bronze. Internationally renowned artist who has pioneered the use of historical styles to parody and demystify sacred cows both political and economic, East and West. Working in a variety of media, his art cites both Chinese and European classics, challenging the viewer to look past familiar cliches. In recent years, Zhang has employed this method to interrogate the alleged essential differences between East and West.

Olafur Eliasson's 'Room for one colour'
•••
You walk into the space and all of a sudden everything appears in black and white. Your eyes can no longer process color due to the sodium lights. It feels like being inside a 1950s tv set. It’s not the same watching it on video, but luckily he included a “snippet” of this at his 2008 MOMA exhibition “Take Your Time”. It was near one of the escalators and although I only experienced it for less than 2 minutes it was incredibly transformative. This installation has stayed with me so deeply. I think of it more often than one would expect.
