Peaches Goes Bananas (Marie Losier)

A perfect example of “don’t judge a book by its cover”. Excellent documentary about Peaches, her life before fame, and her thoughts on aging.

“Prisencolinensinainciusol” - Best song title ever
•••
The nonsense lyrics to “Prisencolinensinainciusol” were intended to imitate the way American English sounds to non-English speakers. Despite having no actual meaning, the song rose to number one on the charts in Italy, Germany, France and Belgium that year. It’s so catchy and I dare you not to tap to the beat. It’s a great pump up song.

Learning What Autism Really Is
•••
I was recently diagnosed as Autistic (Level 1). If you know me your first reaction would be, “No you don’t, you’re super smart and are one of the most capable people I know!”. Because that was also my reaction when my psychiatrist floated the idea that my anxiety and panic attacks (staring at age 7) were a symptom of Autism instead of merely existing on their own. And boy was she right. Most people’s associations with Autism are visions of non-verbal children rocking intensely in a corner or Dustin Hoffman’s portrayal of “Rain Man.” But those are only singular versions of some of the ways Autism can show up. Turns out a lot of the time, especially for women, signs go unnoticed because they aren’t very visible or overt. And women, like myself, have learned to camouflage or mask their entire lives. The release of this doc on Netflix was serendipitously timed with my process of understanding how Austism plays a role in both my inner and outer world. And I’m so thankful Jenn was open and brave bough to offer her journey as a lesson for all of us to understand each other a little better. If you want to learn more I highly recommend these 2 books: UNMASKING AUTISM IS IT AUTISM?

The AI Doc: Or How I Became An Apocaloptimist
•••
An excellent primer on all of the AI hype and hysteria. Hear from all of the key players in this space and how they mitigate the issues between peril and power. Also the visual sequences are done by the director (also an artist) and are very cool.

Behind the Curve (2018)
•••
One of my top 3 documentary recs. And 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. A true unbiased doc (rare these days) that is a true revelation about how and why people come to swarm around conspiracy theories. Heartfelt, thoughtful, and honest. And the ending…

The Repair Shop
•••
I can easily binge this at any time. The Repair Shop is a heartwarming British television show where skilled craftspeople restore damaged or broken family heirlooms to their former glory. Set in an enchanting, remote workshop, the series brings together experts in furniture, horology, metalwork, and ceramics to save treasured possessions and the emotional stories behind them.

How Sociopaths Actually Work
•••
Stumbled across the series “Authorized Account” by Business Insider and I’ve now thrown myself down this rabbit hole, a bag of proverbial popcorn in tow. This one in particular is an excellent primer on sociopathy and how everything we’ve been conditioned to associate with it has been overblown and sensationalized. All her life, Dr. Patric Gagne had the symptoms of sociopathic personality disorder, but few answers. In her new memoir "Sociopath," she detailed her childhood experience of feeling like an outsider and her struggle to find a proper diagnosis and treatment as an adult.

So thoughtful, so soothing, so educational. If you haven’t given it a try now’s the time. The older episodes are especially the best. And there’s a free app so you can watch all the way back to 1979. Pro tip: if you have a smart TV, like Samsung, there’s a channel devoted solely to This Old House.

The Dark Wizard
•••
Never have I ever been more excited for it to be a Tuesday. Highly recommend! “The Dark Wizard is a 2026 four-part HBO Max documentary series exploring the life of Dean Potter, a pioneering, controversial extreme climber, BASE jumper, and highline walker. Directed by Peter Mortimer and Nick Rosen (The Alpinist), it covers his, triumphs, inner demons, and rivalry with Alex Honnold.”

Queen of Chess Official Trailer

Again, no need to know anything about chess. This is about the girl phenom and her sisters who stunned the world and beat “the man”. The life of Judit Polgár, widely considered the greatest female chess player in history. The film, available to stream, highlights her rise as a child prodigy, her battles against top male players including Garry Kasparov, and her achievement as the only woman to break the top 10 world ranking

Guys hear me out on this one. Even if you don’t have kids. This is single-handedly the best current “kid’s show” out there. It’s never annoying, I always learn a little parenting hack from it, and as my mom would say “it just warms my heart.” The episodes are short, they’re so playful, and it comically hints at all the trials and tribulations of parenting. (Secrets: Sometimes I turn it on in the background just because the sister’s voices are so cute.)

Anyone can have an intimate relationship with the Cremaster films or the sculptures ... anyone can access them from any point; from fashion, horror movies, architecture, drawing, photography, football, plastics—or just story-telling. The whole project is so porous; there are a million ways to enter it. —Matthew D. Ryle, production designer, Cremasters 1, 2, 3, and 5
