Rest Assured
•••
Baby sleep is famously controversial, instense, and full of choices parents navigate sleep deprived and with too much advice and too little information. This is the best book on infant sleep and development I found as I navigated newborn sleep. It is science-y but also deeply human and compassionate (though it is not immune to the over emotional delivery baby books tend to veer into). I get it for all my pregnant friends and have heard that reading it pre baby provided much easier access to ease and intuition which is what I wish for all new moms.

The Art of Fighting
•••
Priya Parker, the woman that you are. The Art of Gathering is one of my most read books- it changed my brain in meaningful ways and as someone who is obsessed with connection, community, gathering - it is a bible for so many aspects of my life. The Art of Fighting is the missing puzzle piece. Bringing people together is often the work of people pleasing eldest daughters and this book is a gift for them, showing them that the heat of conflict and repair is the secret sauce to lasting connection (both personally and universally).

When Things Fall Apart
•••
This is a perfect break up or grief companion. After my worst break up, mid covid, I was a blob on the floor for weeks. I got a copy in the mail with no note. I didn’t think much of that at the time, I read it and it really changed a lot of things for me. It has served me for years through so many other moments of falling apart. Not too long ago I brought it up to my husband (and long time friend), turns out he was the one who sent it to me back then as a balm to my suffering. Things work out in the strangest ways.

Found this poem in high school and it wrecked me. It finds new ways to wreck me with every passing year.

Not sure why I, a woman who recently lost her stepdad, thought this book about a woman reconnecting with her stepdad as an adult would be a good casual read. It was not that. It was rich in grief and tenderness. It was gorgeous.
