makeable/doable.
rehydrate your brown sugar with a piece of bread.
•••
serial decanters with children who don't always screw the lid on tight know the scourge of the brown sugar that's so dried out it's practically fossilized. stop scraping away at hard-as-rock sugar and stick a half a slice of bread in the jar instead. by morning you'll have the fluffiest brown sugar you ever did see!

Mapstr: the app that makes sure you never forget a great place
•••
To keep all your favourite places and recommendations at your fingertips. The app is absolutely brilliant: you can create your tags (my favourite is “recommendation” — just like Rec League!), comments and ratings to places, plus an AI-generated description. You can view everything either on a map or as a list. You can also follow other people’s maps and save their recommendations to your own. An absolute must-have for travelling, or simply for finding ideas for things to do.

Best Linen Sheets

Love that these are 100% Organic French Linen. Naturally temperature regulating (with no toxins). The weight is so luxe and calming + they get softer with every wash. Comes in 8 colors + a striped version. Worth the investment.

Sorry, Baby (2025)
•••
This was my favorite movie of 2025. It’s about something very dark, but manages to be beautiful, funny and sort of life affirming. The central friendship was really moving and sweet. Eva Victor is an absolute star and I can’t wait to see what else they do.

Peep Show (tv series)

Easily the funniest show. I have conservatively seen the whole thing 30 times and it never stops being funny, shocking, brilliant, or strangely comforting. This is a show that thrives on characters who are consistently themselves, always in damaging ways.

Korean Spa Scrub Mitts
$14.50

If you can’t get to a kspa, these are so cheap and exfoliate like nothing else. Soak in the bath for at least 10 mins then scrub every inch with these. You will be horrified by what comes off and have immediate baby skin, not to mention how good it feels doing it.

Molly Shannon as Emily Dickinson. It’s a little loose for a period piece which I really appreciated. A bit of a romp but also romantic and whimsical.

One Night Only is good! Really!
•••
I was terrified at the trailer’s breezy take on a horrifying premise, and went in with basement-level expectations. Five mins in I was sold, and thought it walked the tightrope super well. Monica Barbaro is a starrr and Callum Turner may be the new Tom Hanks (see Eternity!)? Plus it had a stacked supporting cast. Go to the movies, we need more good romcoms with actual movie stars and they need you!!!

Cult and King Hair Jelly
$40
•••
Cult and King products are truly lovely for many reasons (eco friendly, work like a dream, gender neutral, and don’t use single use plastics). The Jelly is one of my favorites. It contains none of the petroleum-based polymers found in most curl and volume products. I use this to give my hair (thin/slightly wavy/fine) a little oomph and it never disappoints. AND it comes in beautiful glass packaging!

I’m sorry to everyone else but this is actually the only correct answer. I used to have chapped lips all the time, I’ve tried every possible product, this one is completely different. It moisturizes AND locks in moisture in a longer term way. Now I literally can’t remember the last time I had chapped lips because it’s such a distant, faraway memory. These are the best in the biz, far and away.

Gene Keys
•••
The Gene Keys is a system that is Human Design-adjacent, and it touches on your gifts/life purpose/health. It’s a whole rabbit hole you could go down, but you don’t need to! Bear with me! Just go look up your free chart (you need your birth time) and then click over to the one page summary. It will give you 4 paragraphs: what you’re here to do, what you’re here to learn, what keeps you healthy, and your purpose. PRINT IT OUT. Read it regularly. Don’t obsess over it, don’t try to DO it, just read it and then read it again tomorrow or next week and the week after that, and let its message gently permeate.

NOCO Boost GB40 Jump Starter
$99.95
•••
If you have a car, buy this thing. Never again will you need to find a stranger to give you a jump or make your sister leave work because you couldn’t find a stranger to give you a jump. I use this thing all the time because my kids are always accidentally leaving a dome light on and I never notice. It’s so easy that I have now approached strangers on multiple occasions asking if they need help, and it’s so quick and painless with no car moving required. I never knew I could feel so strongly about a car accessory.

How to Write a Lot (Paul Silvia)
•••
This book summarizes the research on how to write regularly, copiously, and effectively. I've tested the methods described by applying them to myself, and it worked so well that I now use the same methods to train my students. The single biggest change for me was thinking about how I end a writing session. I started ending my writing sessions sooner, so that I could stop while I was still feeling good. That helped me associate the experience of writing with positive feelings, which in turn made it easier for me to continue the next day. Combining that with leaving a note to myself about the first thing I should do tomorrow? Magic.

Neutral descriptions of consequences
•••
In setting boundaries, I think of this approach as a type of feedforward. You are letting people know what to expect if they behave a certain way. By keeping your tone neutral, you remind everyone involved (including you!) that you are not trying to control the other person’s behavior, but rather to make sure they have all the information. I find that liberating, especially if I have to enforce said consequences - they knew the deal. Example: “If you invite Bob to the party, then I won’t be joining you.”

Blueland Eco-Friendly Powder Dish Soap
$18
•••
I tried to shake up my cleaning products recently and could find no other dish soap like this one! It’s the best degreaser that’s shockingly gentle on skin. It’s the only soap I’ve found that can actually get latex paint off my hands without totally drying out my skin. It’s also a slightly abrasive powder that’s better for scrubbing dishes than liquid soap. I can’t quit her!

Fig: Food Scanner & Guide
•••
One of the most useful apps if you have any dietary restrictions. You create your own “Fig” with your allergies and avoidances. Then you can scan or look up different food items to see if it has ingredients that match your sensitivities. You can also make folders and bookmark foods to come back to (I have already been saving yummy Rec League snacks in the Fig app that I to buy).
