Red light filter for your iphone (Dana Berk)
•••
For doomscrolling in bed, specifically. From Dana: Create a shortcut on your phone to change the color of your screen just by triple clicking the side button. I do this every night when I get into bed to make scrolling much less desirable and the light much less bright. Step 1: Turn on the Red Color Filter Go to Settings > Accessibility. Tap on Display & Text Size > Color Filters. Toggle the Color Filters switch to On. Select Color Tint. Move the Intensity and Hue sliders all the way to the right for a deep red effect. Step 2: Create a Triple-Click Shortcut Go back to Settings > Accessibility. Scroll to the bottom and tap Accessibility Shortcut. Select Color Filters. Now, simply triple-click the side button (or the Home button on older models) to instantly turn your screen red or change it back to normal.

•••
This has been the most useful and supportive app that I learned about on rec league. I use it everyday and it helps me to name and track my feelings with more precision. The aesthetic is compelling but not cheesy which encourages me to keep using it. Thanks @samael!

You can sign up to review books before they get published. I have already read through a few cookbooks from people I adore and tested recipes. Cannot wait to post my reviews when they come out. Cookbooks are my favorite so that has been my main focus on reviewing but there is every genre available!

Love this recommendation, @JessieRandall. This yogurt is creamy and dreamy. After finishing the yogurt, I love reusing the beautiful blue vessel to gift mini bouquets of fresh flowers to friends, just as she suggested

BODHA Beeswax Eau de Parfum
$150
•••
Via a rec from @Kelsey Keith, of immaculate taste, I now have my favorite perfume. While other perfumes delight and smell like perfume this smells like a mix of the tiny carved box I kept by my bed as a child with a piece of amber that I would smell each night and checking the bee hives in the summer sun. I can’t get enough.

How To Cook Normal Oatmeal
•••
TLDR; more liquid makes all the difference in cooking oatmeal. This recipe recommends 1:4 ratio of oats to liquid by volume. I'm not an oat-critic though, so I just think why not find your happy ratio with this general tip in mind? ¾ cup old fashioned oats [75g] 1½ cups water [355g] 1½ cups your milk of choice* [355g]

dying in the club (thesis pending)
•••
There’s clearly much more work to be done, but this is what I’ve got so far. There are a couple edge cases, like “Fire Burning,” which is more you’re so hot than apocalypse, and “Teenage Dream,” which has “We can dance until we die/ You and I/ We’ll be young forever” but doesn’t quite have the club. I need to talk to both Pitbull and Kesha who were major contributors to the genre (I feel weird including the Kesha songs at all, bc they’re from when she had to work with Dr. Luke, and I don’t know how she feels about her music from that period, but I didn’t want to leave her out either.) Thank you to @April, @Steven Weill, that person at the party, @grace murray, @Amy and @rory, @Spines, Flicks, and Wax, and a man I once talked to on a dating app. Also enormous thank you to @Samantha Culp, whose songs I can’t include but have opened up important research avenues (same to @Nicole and @Ross Chait). Why did I write about this playlist like I was doing the acknowledgements to a book? edit: thank you to @Dylan for two new songs! And to my friend Tabitha who is a huge contributor to my dying in the club thesis (@Jessie suggested calling it YOLO theory).

i am re-re-recing this. i have now actually read it per lauren’s rec and i must declare it one of my favorite books ive ever read. i was prepared for dense and sciencey but it was story driven and i found it quite digestible. the world building was fucking fantastic. i have never called anything a must read but i declare this a must read. going to put together a better review on pagebound (ty rec league) later but for now, god bless u @lauren o

recipe for being a morning p...
range by kara duval
•••
i found this rec on Rec League and WOW. to think that this little community of people has already guided me to something that feels so integral to my wellness. i crave working out now (who among us???) when i know it’s going to be a range class. every single one leaves me feeling regulated and strong, energized and at peace. kara is such a calming presence. i seriously cannot recommend enough. sometimes i run out of time and do these in the evenings, but it’s always a special treat when i manage to squeeze it in in the morning. she has tons of free classes (“open range”) you can try to get a sense of the vibe. do NOT turn your nose up at jitterbug based on the description. just try it. there’s no way you don’t love it.
