I’m really enjoying the insight into New York 2001. I’m also collecting the series with the attached covers, which happen to be decommissioned library copies.

I think this series has a lot to recommend it, if you like elaborate heists, shady bars where crooks connect, characters like Pepper and Ray Carney. Tempted to start the whole series again once I finish this book.

Historical fiction that doesn’t feel like homework. Murder, mystery, injustice, and a woman you can’t help but root for. I tore through it—and then went down a rabbit hole learning about the real Martha Ballard afterward.

I am a fan of John Le Carre’s work, and this book follows in his footsteps. It’s fun to be back in the world of George Smiley and the Circus. I think Nick Harkaway did great job of writing a Le Carre-esque work that will satisfy fans.

This is such a weird premise but so well written that I deeply felt and understood the main character and she has really stayed with me since reading. Am I sexually attracted to planes now? Nope, but I get it! Can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.

I read all 8 volumes this summer and I’m waiting with bated breath for the next one. This is such a heartwarming, whimsical series. The author is writing and releasing the fictional journals in the fashion of 19th century British periodicals. Emma now narrates my inner monologue.

Watching Over Her

In the Tuscan countryside, a small man lays dying, protected by monks. We travel back with him through his memories growing up, falling in love with the wealthy neighbour girl and becoming a famous sculptor during Mussolini’s rise to power. Witty, beautiful, atmospheric and still full of plot. I adored it.

an epic fantasy tale masterfully woven and playfully inventive, this is a story of imperial intrigue, cutthroat competition, interpersonal relationships and one scholar’s quest to uncover the truth. It looks at how far people will go to protect what they hold dear and to fight for their cause…

Four books (of a planned seven) have been translated so far and each release is eagerly anticipated — basically, time stops (or does it?) and we live in a world of endless November 18ths. Not sci-fi, moreso an examination of the beautiful patterns that make up our day-to-day.
