Get fit for an NTI device
•••
NOTHING worked for my TMJ/corresponding head/neck/shoulder pain (though I never tried Botox) until I finally saw an oral surgeon (Dr. Margossian in Burbank) who fit me for an NTI mouthguard (you wear at night but it is NOT a regular nightguard). It 100% solved my problem and I could not rec it harder.

What Is Buccal Massage? Benefits & Techniques
•••
See if you can find a massage therapist that does buccal massages. Yes, they put in rubber gloves and go inside your mouth. It is 20 seconds of discomfort and watering eyes but so worth it. I recommend it as part of a more-fun lymphatic drainage massage.

Botox for TMJ is the best
•••
This by far has been the top solution for pain and tightness out of so many and I mean maaaaany other options, over the years I’ve tried - braces, massages, acupuncture, exercises, specialized training tools, mouth guards and on and on. For the last 4 years, I’ve been getting 20 units in each side, I started with re-upping it ever 6 months in the first 2 years and now can go as long as a full year of feeling the relief and effect of it, it truly was a life changing decision. And tbh I’m not mad about a slight chin area “snatch” and lift 🤭 Highly recommend!

Precision Neuromuscular Therapy
•••
If you struggle with any kind of chronic pain (back, shoulder neck, etc), TMJ, migraines or chronic headaches, thoracic outlet syndrome, or have hypermobility or EDS, I cannot recommend precision neuromuscular therapy enough. I discovered it through a lot of research after traditional massage therapy was unhelpful and harmful. It is specialized, so use the link above to find a practitioner in your area. It is worth every penny. I have gone twice a week for several years and it is one of the only things that helps me manage my pain levels besides low-dose naltrexone. Chicagoland people - I go to Somavida in Evanston and I love them dearly. If you are interested and have questions let me know. Tell them Megan P sent you!

Restore Dental Studio Agoura Hills

It’s probably a trek for you if you’re in LA, but Kathleen and her team are THE best. My Mom was one of the top dentist’s in Vegas for close to 30 years before she retired, and her network of incredible dentists is top tier. This is a team she’d recommend any day.

Botox

It took me so long to get there but I can’t recommend Botox enough for the TMJ. It’s been a lifesaver!

This is the dentist that really helped me

She made my custom bite guard/orthotic. People come Fromm all over the country and world to see her. Maybe there’s someone like that in your area?

All the things

I’ve done botox, pain meds, bodywork, TMJ massage, surgery and a very expensive orthotic that fits to your mouth. I think that’s been the most helpful to retrain how I hold my tongue and jaw. I also love my TMJ Massager pen. I’d also recommend a good chiropractor and massage therapist to work on the rest of your head and neck. A lot of TMJ pain is rooted in neck dysfunction. I hope that helps!!
