The Hounding

I listened to the audiobook of this and really enjoyed it! It's similar in atmosphere and theme to The Virgin Suicides, as well as in the fact that the story revolves around a community's fixation on a group of siblings whose perspectives we never see directly.

I Who Have Never Known Men

This is an instance of a book blowing up on social media that (imo) actually deserves the hype. Very few good things happen in this book and it should be absolutely miserable, but to me it read as a testament to the human will to survive and make meaning

I don’t really know what happened in this cryptic short story, but I love it anyway. Would love to discuss theories if anyone else has read

Our Wives Under the Sea

Beautifully written and bleak but surprisingly funny meditation on losing someone who hasn’t actually died or left. Miri’s wife Leah goes missing for six months on a submarine research trip. When she unexpectedly returns, she’s not the same person who left. Classified as body horror, but the description doesn’t really fit imo (not icky). Not for those that dislike unanswered questions
