Atlanta chosen to be host city for the Olympics
•••
I was in first grade and we all were waiting in our cars in carpool line, with bated breath, crossing all our fingers and toes that Atlanta was going to be chosen. The cheers and honking after it was announced was spectacular. Atlanta doesn’t get a lot of wins, and this was not without its fair share of controversy, but it sure was fun being a kid when this happened!

Atlanta is not always the easiest city to love ( the heat! The traffic!) but Outkast is one of our finest exports and this album is perfect. Ditto to Stankonia. Really their entire discography is 🤌

Yes @hannah wiesner !!! I wish I lived closer but Oakland is such a gorgeous place to walk around. The trees and gardens are incredible throughout the seasons. A gloomy fall day is my personal fave. Bonus, Little Tart is right around the corner for a pre or post-treat

Summer is not my favorite season but I romanticize swimming holes. Swimming in a quarry last summer was a top tier experience and memory. Plug in your location and find one near you!

The Little Tart Bakeshop
•••
It really is the best bakery in Atlanta. Lives up to the hype and long lines (at every location, including the farmers market). The cinnamon toast and chocolate pistachio croissant are witchcraft.

Cremalosa Gelato
•••
Gelato with a lovely texture (some places in Atlanta don’t keep their gelato soft enough for my taste) and fresh flavors that change often! I also tried their tiramisu and it was so, so excellent! Multiple locations but I went to this one in Avondale.

The Book Bird Bookstore

Darling book store in Avondale with a coffee shop in the back and plenty of seating and pretty light. I could definitely see myself coming back with my daughter for some new books and maybe some time playing cards or games at one of these tables inside!

Map of Fruit Trees in your neighborhood!
•••
I checked my address and can confirm it had the very very few edible fruit trees near me listed on the map! I would even venture to say most of the people in my area wouldn’t know the trees listed are edible! This is a very cool concept :)

Such a wonderful and wild slice of heaven in Buckhead. This place was a top Pandemic field trip when my daughter was a toddler. There’s a creek and a sandy beach in the middle of a forest. Glorious.

Goizueta Children's Experience
•••
The Atlanta History Center is a delightful field trip. The Children’s Experience is a great recent edition and I probably can attribute the seeds planted of a prop styling career to the Tullie Smith House.Visiting on a day when volunteers dressed up and performed blacksmithing, textile weaving/spinning, etc was so formative. Even on days when there aren’t people re-enacting the traditional crafts at the time, it’s so enjoyable! Plus, sheep!

Wanderstate Mercantile is another gem of a store in Chamblee. This is a very cool store for Atlanta and the owner stocks and curates the most beautiful things like incense from Japan to unique pantry staples to soaps and salves. Definitely worth a visit!

Another great book store. Located in Chamblee, this shop has a Savannnah, GA feeling interior and a cute back area for children including a puppet theater. They offer lots of fun classes and book clubs too! Thanks Sam for taking me here!

So Atlanta is kind of a hassle to try new neighborhoods because of our traffic and lack of parking but Chamblee has a darling main street that has been revitalized from its former days (one might say glory days) of antique stores. I was a huge patron of all the antique stores but I do think they they’ve done a lovely job of creating a small-town, almost New-England-feeling of shops and places to eat. If you’re from Atlanta I would say it reminds me of Virginia Highland in the late 90s/early aughts. Kin Coffee is excellent, the interior is lovely, and the baristas are so nice and don’t act too-cool-for-school if ya know what I mean. When I think about going to a coffee shop, this one is where I want to go even though it’s kind of a haul to get to from my house. Shoutout to my friend Sam for bringing me back to Chamblee and showing me all the cool places :)
