Stillness Study (Taos, NM)

These recommendations grew out of the retreat programming and my summer of research spent in Taos. Consider them seeds for a Stillness Study of your own.

What does it mean to choose solitude—not as escape, but as devotion?

That question rested at the heart of Stillness Study, a Skypunch* retreat in Taos, NM. Georgia O’Keeffe and Agnes Martin both turned to the quiet of New Mexico to shape their work: O’Keeffe in the wide silence of Abiquiú, Martin in Taos, in the disciplined stillness of the grid. Each made room for interior listening, for devotion as a daily practice.

*Skypunch is a liminal bookshop and research project building an archive around art’s turn toward landscape, attention, and chance. Its occasional expeditions take a question found on the page out into the landscape that inspired it.
