“Gothic maximalism! I remember people saying it was too slow, but I was so content to sit in the theater and let the performances and the music and the images just wash over me. I am ALL IN on Lily Rose Depp. I can imagine people might have their own very justifiable reaction to the way it handles sex and gender, but I was really interested in what Eggers was exploring. When I reread Dracula, I thought a lot about the way Nosferatu kind of swaps Lucy and Mina as characters, and I really appreciated the way the movie played with the idea of perilous feminine sensitivity in a way that Dracula only hints at. (It’s a major interest of mine, writing wise.)”

“I completely didn’t expect to like this movie and then I completely absolutely loved it, so fantastically freakalicious”

“I liked the pacing and felt like visuals kept me in the moment.”
