“huge fucking fan of kane's original series so i was already in the bag for this as soon as it was announced but wow am i still beyond blown away by how well he translated his style to the big screen and leveled up his storytelling. there are several scenes in this where i genuinely thought my heart was about to beat right out of my chest; it truly feels like you're witnessing the birth of a new language of horror. knowing this is just the beginning of what we'll see from kane on this canvas makes me so hopeful for the future of film.”

“at first i was like huh. then i was like wait woah. and then i was like jesus fucking christ of nazareth get me out of here. watching this was like lucid dreaming on acid. an hour worth of therapy for freaks lost in the trenches of midlife crisis induced existential dread followed by an hour of pure absurdist theatrical fuckery. things are happening and i am breathless and claustrophobic and i am in the backrooms or maybe the subconsciousness is the backrooms and i’m running circles around life without a compass without direction without a flashlight without meaning without without without. rest in peace charlotte perkins gilman of the yellow wallpaper you would’ve loved unravelling your sense of self in the backrooms. i can see why this film is not everyone’s cup of tea you kinda need to be a little miserable in life to truly conceptualise the abyssal ontological psyche-warping horrors of the backrooms or at least my personal reading of it is of a more philosophical bent. anyway kane parsons, the freaks are rooting for you on the directorial journey”
