The Invite

“such a fun movie to see in theaters. everyone is laughing and having a gooood time. i loved it.”

“OH MY GODDDD I loved this movie. As my friend Kitty said, it was very much giving "are the hets okay?" and I really don't think they are, but damn, that makes for great cinema. As a middle-aged woman, I LOVE seeing my fellow middle-aged women represented in funny and complex character studies. Directed by and starring Olivia Wilde (one of my many queer awakenings thanks to her portrayal of the bisexual Alex in The O.C.) as a highly strung, and dare I say - Virgo-adjacent icon. Seth Rogen is in peak acting form as her hilariously honest hater husband. Their neighbours are played by Penelope Cruz (who I discovered is 52 years old, what a WOMAN) and is the hottest person alive with impeccable comic timing, and Edward Norton is hysterical as her partner in a refreshing departure from his otherwise very serious parts. It's also got a trailer that succeeds at giving you a taste of what to expect without giving away the entire plot. 5 stars. OBSESSED.”

“Can we talk about this movie? I finally saw it over the weekend and I'm obsessed. The acting was awesome, the apartment was beautiful, and the Olivia Wilde's character was painfully relatable (to me, least). Recommend!”

“I laughed, I squirmed, I recoiled, I could have watched this set piece play out for several more hours. Great film, great cast (Edward Norton forever!).”

“Really fun movie! Started out giving marriage story but ended up in a perfect blend of funny but deep”

“Absolutely yes what a 🎢 I cannot wait to watch again.”

“Hilarious, terribly sad, hopeful, moving, freeing. Ironically, I found so much comfort in this film. Written and directed by women and it shows. A must watch.”

“Epic fun time”

“A film directed by Olivia Wilde, with Seth Rogan. Found it hilarious and probably relatable for many. Overall very well crafted and executed.”

“It was funny, real and of this exact moment for so many relationships —also Ed Norton & Seth Rogan were hilarious, tender & profound. Brava Megan Ellison & Anapurna for making this gem.”

“Couldn’t have said it better myself. Immediately wanted to see it again.”

“This is a masterpiece with a small cast of perfectly selected actors at the height of their careers. A story about aging, communication, love, and sex - all taking place over the course of one evening in one location. I’ve had multiple people thank me for recommending it to them, especially my friends with partners. This is a film that will have everyone talking afterward.”

“Can’t stop thinking about this movie, which is like (and should eventually actually be) a play. Perfect cast and so much funnier than expected - highly recommend catching it in theaters to get full enjoyment of the laughs”

“such a genuinely funny movie in a way we didn't expect. the entire theater was loling through the whole thing. worth a watch if you are in the mood to be entertained! support your local movie theaters!”

“banger! really funny and heartfelt— first half of this feels like an episode of The Office grown up. did not expect to like this as much as I did. go watch in a theater!”

“Anxiety provoking and fun!”

“Hilarious movie, great writing, interesting commentary on love? Some observations I had: Joe and angela wear the same muted shade of teal (same shade as their entire house) whereas Pina and Hawk wear black. In the scene where they’re debating when and if they should partake in yk what, the difference in body language of each couple is so stark”

“this got five stars from me and some laughs and almost a tear”

“this is a perfect film. saw it three (!) times at the chelsea theater in chapel hill, which only made the experience that much better.”

“Amazing movie”

“Olivia Wilde, Rashida Jones, + Will McCormack are geniuses. I was skeptical I’d enjoy this as much as everyone said and it blew me away. Seth Rogen making me cry? Olivia as a deeply relatable and hilariously crazed anxiety girlie? Penelope killed it, Edward was the star. Wow. Only drag was when I had to move seats because the man behind me was guffawing too loudly.”

“I cannot remember the last time I laughed this hard in theaters. An absolute thrill. Everyone knew their role. The film embodies such a wide breadth of feelings: the stress it feels to host people, the longing for approval of those you deem cool and unattainable, the barely veiled messages in the looks cast across the room to your partner, and so so so much more. Keywords for me: jamon, soufflé, namaste, tysm, hawk, olives.”

“do you like to be anxious?”

“This perfectly captures my worst fear!!! I’m sick!!! Obsessed!!!”

“Great script and acting”

“I laughed so hard I thought I pulled a muscle.”

“(July 11,2026) Go to the movie theatre, NOW!!!! Absolutely captivating and beyond thought provoking. I want to write an essay about it.”

“I can't stop thinking about this movie”
