julianaFirst to rec“Clarice Lispector's last novel. Total genius, both the book and her, obviously. The centenntial edition is beautiful. Great translation. Some of my favorite quotes: "Though the anonymous girl in the story is so ancient that she could be a biblical figure. She was subterranean and had never flowered. I'm lying: she was grass." "At the same time that I want to arrive at the thickest and lowest, deepest and earth trombone, so much for no good reason that out of nervousness in writing I burst out in an uncontrollable laugh coming straight from my chest." "She's accusing me and the way to defend myself is to write about her. I write in bold and severe painter's strokes. I'll be dealing with facts as if they were the irremediable stones I spoke of earlier." "(explosion)" iykyk”

bella“i finished it this morning and i'll begin re-reading tonight. clarice lispector is maybe my favorite writer ever. i could and will write an essay on her, but for now, i'll leave it at a few words. grotesque, sublime, surreal. lispector strikes a pickaxe at the flesh in search of the truest nucleus of human spirit. this ND special edition is a particularly beautiful publication and made reading it all the more special.”
