North Woods

“A multigenerational story about…a house? Complete with ghosts. And some of the very best nature writing I’ve ever read.”

“One of my favorite books of the last few years - it’s got romance, history, environmentalism, murder, and the metaphysical. 10/10”

“It took my breath away, both metaphorically and in some places literally! A visceral poetic read, as close to time travel as you can get.”

“Magical surrealism stories that build onto and weave into each other over time - dark, but captivating in a way that few current books manage to be. The writing is stunning. One of my favorites.”

“I still think about how much more loud the woods would be with all the birds that are now gone, and I miss the chestnut trees I've never met. Loved this.”

“I’ve recommended this to literally everyone that can read”

“didn't know where this would take me, but i'm glad i went on the ride. a prism of people and relationships over time, all rooted in the exact place. deeper and more specific than a town, place as setting and context and history and character. also learned about apple cultivation and the american spiritualism movement so that's coooool.”

“the ashmead kernel apple inspired the writing of this incredible book”

“A great ghost story ♥️”

““Apples” by Charli XCX was a take-off of NW”

“I'm listening to it, have one hour left, and hate for it to end! It's funny, mysterious, and intriguing. The narrators are excellent as well.”

“One of the best books I've ever read.”

“Took me a few years to buy the hype of this book but once I read it, I was sold. Gorgeous.”

“I was shocked by how much I loved this book. Each "chapter" is it's own space in time, but all tied to the previous and future chapters. It's poetic, spooky, and perfectly outlines how much interconnectedness exists between us, nature, the spiritual realm, and time. LOVED!”

“The story of the occupants of a yellow house in the woods over four centuries. Deeply weird (complementary), a touch spooky, and just special. I loved it.”

“…”

“The people that come and go. A few ghost stories. But the main character is the majestic forest. Left my heart aching for the American Chestnut and our lost biodiversity.”

“This is a book I recommend to everyone. The plot of land is a main character and the story of this particular plot is told many different ways and in many points of view”

“Daniel Mason's acclaimed novel chronicles 400 years of interconnected lives and stories within a single house.”

“It’s beautiful and poetic and harsh. “If life is like a song, as the saying goes, theirs was more refrain than verse.” Ughh ✨”
