Writers & Lovers

“I don't read a lot of fiction, but I really enjoyed this book.”

“Such a great book. Do yourself a favor and read “Heart the Lover” next. These books are impossible to describe but make me feel all the feels.”

“my friend shawnie told me to read lily king.  We agree that she is the best at articulating the inner world of a girl, a 30 year old girl especially. One with debt and anxieties and hopes and dreams. We also think she must have riz because her main character always has riz. her books are a tight hug from an old friend. a friend you don’t have to explain much of yourself to because they already know everything. here is the first paragraph. i was immediately hooked. some other parts I thought were worth remembering:”

“But what if it all works out? This book has served as a something between a bible and a miracle drug for my 23 year old, post grad, fears and confusions. It beautifully tackles grief, love and how it feels to know everything at 18 but nothing at 22, with so much heart and humor. I’ll read it again next year and probably every year after that until forever.”

“I felt so transported when I read this book for the first time. Her writing is so immersive, I inhaled this in too short a time frame.”

“the best. unstoppable. i love all her books but this one is IT.”

“a beautiful and moving novel about pursuing art and a creative life, and questioning when to keep going or when to stop. loved how king portrays writing, grief, love, getting older, the community of a low paying job, basically everything.”

“I love a 31-year-old woman coming of age!”

“That pull. That connection. That heartbreak that still sort of feels good.”

“enjoyed all the way through. cried so hard my neighbors could hear during the last chapter.”

“My mom just bought a halloween decoration that says lived, laughed, loved— that’s basically this book. Read it in a day just like everyone said. ty @cass for the rec <3 **spoilers ahead** This bit interrupted the growing ache in my chest and made me laugh I mostly cried through the rest”

“This is an excellent book! Very Boston.”

“I missed my subway stop reading this book which is generally a great sign. Heartbreaking, sweet, and one you'll finish quickly.”

“WRECKED”

“I love Lily King. I was introduced to her through Five Tuesday in Winter, which I also loved. I love the way she writes her characters, their depth, their faults, their love.”

“Realizing many of my recs are set in Cambridge. Or should I say, a town outside of Boston!”

“The perfect read for those that love to reminisce- you’ll laugh, cry, and wonder why it all went so wrong (or did it??)”

“I was reading this at The Crosby Street Hotel Bar and the woman next to me turned to her husband and said, "she's reading that book I couldn't stop crying over while we were at the shore."”

“Loved sm.”

“All time favorite. Have never wanted to stand up and cheer for a protagonist more. A thoughtful look at art, the cost of creating it, and true passion.”

“I tear through her books. Damn good writing makes damn easy reading!! Lots of love triangles and sentences that stop you cold.”

“Love. Friendship. Life paths. Forgiveness. Human experience.”

“Still thinking about these characters. ❤️💔”

“fav book so far”

“Read in one sitting. Pure perfection.”
