Analisa BurnsFirst to rec“A memoir about Melissa Auf der Maur growing up in the crazy ‘90s rock scene and playing in bands like Hole / Smashing Pumpkins. I'm not even into this music but the story is very introspective —mixing music, grief & womanhood”

Annie Pontarelli“Hearing the shift in Melissa’s voice while talking about her father’s death was heartbreaking. Also loved the bonus track talking about all the images in the book. Interesting to hear about the business of being in bands as well.”

Shannon Kehler“Reliving this decade felt so damn good. I can’t say I’m a Hole fan but I appreciated the trip down memory lane, living my formative years, ages 16-26, through the 90s. It’s a fun read.”

Tanya“I became obsessed with Hole as a pre-teen back in the day when i first saw my mom’s cassette of Live Through This on a shelf in a spare bedroom. I immersed myself in this book for two weeks and really loved it. Melissa’s storytelling is very descriptive and deep. It is also a nostalgic trip through the late 80’s and 90’s.”

Chanteclair“Still reading the beginning, Melissa Auf De Mauer grew up in Montreal, like me and really highlights all of the amazing and weird culture that nourished us. Montreal may be one of the coolest cities ever? So far, she’s spoken about things like tape DJing at Bar Bifteque, goth bar Thunderdome and legendary punk bar Foufounes Electriques! She really lived the most bohemian life, going to MIND and living on Saint Dominique in the same building as THE Vice founder, whom she refuses to name. Melissa writes very honestly and it makes me love her so much! ♥️ Haven’t even gotten to the parts where she joins the Smashing Pumpkins and Hole yet.”

Madolyn Schultz“I have cried reading every page so far. The way Melissa reflects on her childhood; how being raised by activists and artists lead her to be confident, caring, curious, and a deeply feeling and seeing woman is all that I can ask for as a mom.”
