All you need to get started is to download Obsidian on to your computer (device of choice) and go. They don’t ask for your email and you don’t have to create a user name, nothing like apps these days. Most importantly, everything is stored locally (as simple text or markdown files) on your computer (and/or phone) so YOU OWN and control all your data. Obsidian can disappear tomorrow and you can still access all your files and information. No subscription just download the software and you own it. Obsidian unlike notion also has a graph view where you can see how all your ideas connect! Obsidian is one of my all time favorite programs and I can see myself using it my entire life.”

“After trying so many other note-taking apps, I've landed on Obsidian for many reasons. Reason #1: markdown files stored locally on your own computer and not trapped in an app make your work future-proof. (Just remember to back that shit up!) Reason #2: bidirectional links. I cannot live without them anymore. Reason #3: graph mode. You can see your notes as an interconnected web. The more you input into it, the bigger and webbier it gets! Reason #4: since the files are stored on your computer, it's easy to duplicate them and make separate vaults for separate projects if you want to keep things clean. Reason #5: Daily notes are a great place for interstitial journaling so you can keep track of things you do that would be helpful to remember later.”
