Shinkyō Bridge

“That one bridge you see in all the ads for Nikkō. Shinkyō Bridge 神橋 is a part of Futarasan Shrine and is a designated Important Cultural Property AND was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. I didn't know this until researching just now, but apparently the engineering method used to make this bridge is called "hanebashi" or はね橋 where the bridge supports are embedded directly into the bedrock on both banks without any structure in the river itself... making it the only surviving ancient bridge using this method built across a mountain gorge in Japan. ⭑.ᐟᯣ.ᯣ There's a small fee to pay if you want to go on the bridge, but I personally think the view of the bridge itself from the sidewalk is the best way to experience it. 📍 1112-1 Kami-Hatsuishimachi, Nikkō-shi, Tochigi 🕐 入橋 8:00–17:00（季節により変動 / varies by season） 💴 Adult: ¥300 / Student: ¥150”
