“I was starting film school when this episode came out. The film editing, the sound editing, the music...It felt too good to be television. A man's consciousness, time traveling between the present (2004) and the past (1996), requires a "constant" to keep him tethered to present reality before his physical body eventually succumbs. That constant is the love of his life, Penelope, who he is desperately trying to find in his present with limited resources. It's one of my favorite episodes in all of television, and although the lore of the LOST island helps to cement this story, I think it does well as a standalone watch (like The Bear's "Forks").”
