The One and Only Mandarina: This cantilevered pool(adults only I should add) is just one of about 4 amazing pools on property. Each treehouse style room also comes with its own infinity plunge pool that overlooks the ocean or jungle. We watched whales swim by from this main pool while enjoying a lovely beverage. The service is equal to an Aman and the stay is a total worthwhile splurge.

McIver’s Ladies Baths: Historic ocean baths for women from a time when seeing a bit of bare ankle sent men into a frenzy. Incredible natural landscape and impeccable vibes. Run by volunteers. If it’s not warm enough to swim, a towel and a book is all you need.

Kitsilano Pool: Right bedside the ocean and 137m long - she is saltwater perfection. Well, almost - she’s leaking and pretty much at the end of her lifespan and we pray the city will take the long view and not try to shorten her or other such nonsense. My favourite place on earth. If you visit, there is a slightly unusual lane system so read the guidance first! (Space between the two black lines is for passing, otherwise sort yourselves out).

Annenberg Community Beach House: The prettiest pool I’ve ever visited is the Neptune pool at Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California. Unfortunately, you can’t swim there unless you have lots of money and are attending a charity event. One of the prettiest pools I’ve ever actually been able to afford to swim in is the pool at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica. The beach house was originally owned by actress, Marion Davies, who at the time, was the secret girlfriend of WR Hearst.

hearst castle pool: since i was a child i have wanted to swim in this pool, and one day, i will get in there and it will be the best day of my life.

i know the indoor pool is the more classic pick, but hearst castle is all about being outside! lounging in the san simeon sun and taking some dips constitutes a near perfect day. just as william randolph intended.

Bagni Misteriosi, Milan: The most incredible art deco swimming pool + theatre! You have to line up for a while to get in on a hot day & must wear a swimming cap if you go in the water (you can purchase there) but it is a pretty magical must see in my opinion. There's also cafes and bars inside so you can spend the day there.
