When the famous Dear Sugar column first dropped in 2011 I was 19 and had never had a big love or a big grief. Over the ensuing 15y and through several relationships this quote would continue to pop up uninvited in my mind and cause me to say "Am I gonna let a pop self-help author tell me what's 'real'"? and "What is FREELY, anyway"? and "Is anything really ABSOLUTE in this life"? Inconvenient though it is, can now confirm with 100% certainty that absolute rule means absolute rule. Ignore at your peril.

Look on SpotHero. Every airport surrounded by lots. Price for a full week away will cost you less than taking an Uber in both directions. If you can swing it, there is a company near LAX that will pick your car up at the terminal and bring it back to you there, which is one of the only ways to avoid the very, very, very dreaded schlep to LAX-it.

You probably know this one already but just in case you don't, it is my fiduciary duty to post it. Avoiding LAX is one of the most important things a person can do for their mental health and well-being. JetBlue flies directly from NYC to Burbank and vice versa. I don't care if you have a Delta kink...you need to avoid LAX.

My teeth are ground down to nubs and I’ve historically had constant tension headaches but I’ve always been unable to wear a night guard. Dentist recommended this - it clicks on to just the front few teeth so the intrusion is minimal and manageable even if you gag heavy like me

West LA’s daily virtual al anon meeting

LA has the best 12 step meetings any side of Mississippi. There is a life-saving amount of recovery in this meeting. 735-835am PT, different link every day but easy to find in the grid linked because it’s always at the same time. you can listen to it like a podcast with camera off while you have coffee (from anywhere). Updating for those who aren't familiar with Al Anon: technically the twelve step program for friends and families of alcoholics, really a lifestyle program for anyone who wants to stop obsessing over/trying and failing to control other people's behavior.

No better way to pass the time with your elderly parents in the car (am I the only person spending a lot of time with my elderly parents in the car?). Insanely cozy British guys knowing everything about history and making it fun. Loved the Joan of Arc and Harald Hardrada series.
