Tell me your favorite comedy films!
Which ones made YOU do a spit take from laughing so hard?

I want my cheeks and sides to hurt with the humor. Can be childish or raunchy, or anything in between.

Goes without saying but plz skip the ones with cheap “jokes” that lead with racism, fatphobia etc.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople: I cried laughing at this.

Anna · Answer

Super Troopers (2001): I loved this 20 years ago when I was in high school and I love it now. A must for the Meow Game alone.

Also, this is not part of my rec but I just found out that they made a Super Troopers 3 that came out last month?! Weird!

Tim Sondrup · Answer

Galaxy Quest (1999): Never gets old.

Tim Sondrup · Answer

Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016): The obvious choice.

chiarabelle · Answer

The Hangover: I can't believe no one has mentioned this one yet! Zach Galifianakis is pure gold.

Eric · Answer

The 40 Year Old Virgin: The ad-libs are hilarious to me.

chiarabelle · Answer

Tommy Boy: A classic. Chris Farley will never not make me laugh.

Leah Jereb · Answer

Some Like it Hot: Classic classic classic. Top fave movie. Incredible writing. Obviously incredible acting. Transportive.

Kerry · Answer

Nirvana the Band, The Show, the Movie: Has nothing to do with the actual band Nirvana. It’s a time travel, mocumentary, buddy comedy set in Toronto and it is so silly and fun.

Iris Anais · Answer

Plan B (2021)(Directed by Natalie Morales & Written by Joshua Levy and Prathiksha Srinivasan): another delight! I recommended this movie to anyone and everyone when it first came out, plus it's Natalie Morales directorial debut and it's SUCH a good one at that!

Iris Anais · Answer

bottoms: equally silly, smart and iconic, plus SO many laugh out loud moments

Maddie Pete · Answer

The Invite movie: It was funny, real and of this exact moment for so many relationships —also Ed Norton & Seth Rogan were hilarious, tender & profound. Brava Megan Ellison & Anapurna for making this gem.

alie k. · Answer

barb & star go to vista del mar: i truly believe that if this hadn’t been released during covid lockdown it would have been a smash hit. it is so delightful and fun. criminally underrated.

Maribeth · Answer

Babes: Babes cracked me the hell up. Best friends going through it, you know??? Ilana Glazer and Michelle Buteau being brave, being loved, having babies, struggling to juggle work and life and their evolving needs and changing friendship. It has incredible range and balances being ridiculous and real in a way that has me cackling AND crying, every time.

Annelies McH · Answer

Best In Show: You can’t go wrong with any of the Christopher Guest films, but this one has my heart.

Liz Corkery · Answer

This is Spinal Tap: Give me fictional, past-their-prime rockers with zero self-awareness any day and everyday.

Dr. Klara · Answer

I Give It A Year: Rose Byrne, Mimi Driver, Anna Faris, and Olivia Coleman absolutely kill it with the dry humor and wit. Seen it multiple times and can’t stop laughing!

Laura · Answer

Drop Dead Gorgeous: An oldie, but a goodie! This mocumentary follows the Sarah Rose Princess America Pageant contestants in Minnesota. And a star-studded cast: Kirsten Dunst, Denise Richards, Amy Adams, Brittany Murphy, Allison Janney.

Vickie · Answer

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: I’m not usually a big comedy person but I’ve rewatched Forgetting Sarah Marshall so many times. Everyone in the cast is charming and there’s just something about the scene where Jason Segel plays “Peter You Suck” to himself on the piano that lives rent free in my head

Amy Amsterdam · Answer

So I married an axe murderer: Mike Myers playing his own Scottish dad. Nancy Travis as the love interest. Lots of shenanigans and quotable lines that still make me giggle.

Christine C · Answer

Clue: If you've never had the pleasure of watching this: whoo, I'm so jealous you get to experience this for the first time. I know it's based on a board game, but it just transcends its origin. Some epic lines delivered by comedy greats (e.g. Madeline Kahn especially), and the ending is just fabulous.

Julia · Answer

Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar: I think this hilarious movie gets overlooked for two reasons: (1) it stars two middle aged women (2) it came out in early 2021. One of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. It’s sharp and kind to its main characters and Florida vacation color themed. If you need a Friday night decompression movie you can’t go wrong with Barb and Star.

Emily · Answer

Step Brothers: I was wheezing the first time I saw it, and it still makes me cry with laughter every time I watch it.

Analisa Burns · Answer

Midnight Run: bring back buddy movies where 2 guys are like 37 and so stupid

Kelly Thorn · Answer

Theater Camp!: It’s just… perfect in every way. Wet Hot American Summer but make it theater. Chaotic and hilarious.

Jenn · Answer

Hoppers: I didn't expect to love it as much as I did!! Unhinged. Progressive. Ridiculous.

Hannah M. Wilde · Answer

Zoolander: My friends quoted this all through high school and I never saw it until last year and I died laughing. So stupid and so funny and such a time capsule

Alana · Answer

What About Bob: Ok it’s a real 90s flick lol but I’ve loved it since I was a kid and showed it to my kids recently (PG back then is very different than PG now) but we all cracked up.

Sara Quinn · Answer

“Bridesmaids” is Revolutionary Comedy

Kinsey · Answer

They Came Together: Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, David Wain, Bill Hader! This one slipped through in 2014 without a lot of fanfare but it’s such a weird and fun watch!

Danielle Noel · Answer

Tootsie: An oldie but my goodness, is it a goodie

Hannah Harvey · Answer

Dylan · Answer

Booksmart: Ridiculously fun and silly and sweet

Dylan · Answer
